DISCHARGED - NOT DISCHARGED, READY TO GET OFF THIS ROLLER COASTER

Another roller coaster day as I started out early icing cakes and having a routine Wednesday morning I got a text from daughter at the hospital saying son may be discharged today !!
I finished my caramel cake icings and headed over to the hospital, hopefully for the last trip for a while.
When I got there son said the orthopedic doctor was suppose to come in at noon and sign his home health care papers before he could go and this doctor never came. The nurse came in and said she had called his office twice and daughter had called once to try to get the doctor over there to no avail.
Son didn't act to disappointed as the afternoon wore on and it soon became evident that he wasn't going home today when the nurse came in and said I have to take you off the going home list for today.
I know son was really disappointed as anyone who has been in a hospital for a month would be but he is feeling so much better it is so good to see him like this.
As I left to come home at 5:00 that doctor still hasn't shown up.
On the way home I passed a temperature sign and it was 98 degrees at 5:15,wow that's hot.
I watered my potted plants tonight as hubbie headed over to sit with son a while.
The doctor finally came in to see son and hopefully filled out the papers needed so tomorrow he can be discharged.
Daughter is going to pick him up since I will be at market tomorrow.
I pray that everything goes as planned and he is home tomorrow night at this time.
I'm almost afraid to even think about it as something else might come up.
Praying that God will oversee son's discharge and it be His will for him to get home and on the road to recovery.
Good Night and God bless.

DAY 26 DAY OF MUCH NEEDED POSITIVES !!!

Up early and after chores I'm off to the hospital. Looking out over the city of Asheville from the parking deck, the morning haze hadn't burned off yet.On the 4th of July hubbie said people crowded down here from everywhere to watch the fireworks over downtown.
Son and daughter were asleep when I arrived. They had not gotten much sleep last night due to a student nurse who started coming in at 2 am and woke them up repeatedly for the rest of the night.
Physical therapy came in and we convinced son to get up and walk with the walker, then he sat in the recliner for several hours. After he got up and moved his foot around he found he could pull his toes toward him which has been a great concern for the doctors. He grumbled about sitting up but I think he enjoyed it.
I left to come home when d-in-love and g-son came in for lunch.
I had loads of laundry to do here. This is the first Tuesday of the month so I had a lot of extra cleaning and laundry today and didn't get it all finished, tomorrow is another day.
Hubbie went to the hospital tonight for a little while,no one is spending the night tonight. They are going to give him a sleeping pill and there won't be any reason for anyone to be there.
His vascular surgeon came in and was very impressed with the progress he had made since he last saw him on Friday after the surgery.
They are trying to get his orthopedic surgeon and vascular surgeon together to make some decisions about physical therapy and pain meds.
The nurse said they talked today so maybe tomorrow they will have a plan for son.
The nurse said they were trying to get a regimen for pain relief he could do at home.
They sent in a portable wound vac for him to take home today.I still think he will be home for the weekend baring any set backs.
Hubbie said tonight when he came home that he couldn't believe how much better son looked and how much swelling had gone down just from last night.
I even got out this evening and took a walk around our freshly bush hogged pasture. It was nice to get some regularity back into my life and just take a break from the worry.
This has really put things into perspective for me, how life as you know it can change completely in the blink of an eye.
Hubbie and I have been discussing doing something we have thought about for a long time. We always said we'll do it later but after this lesson in life we may go ahead and do it now. I don't want to jinx it by talking about it even before we've had a chance to positively decide on it.
I have been baking cakes tonight and it is 12:20 and I'm waiting for the last ones to come out of the oven now.
So thankful tonight for answered prayers.
Good Night and God Bless.

DAY 25 THAT LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL ,COMING INTO CLEAR VIEW NOW !!!

G-son and I went back to bed after he arrived for a little while.
When we got up and had breakfast, daughter came up and surprised him. He is always glad to see his aunt T.
She stayed here with him while I did a shortened Avon route, I guess everyone is still celebrating the 4th weekend.
Hubbie called from the hospital and said son was feeling better and had a more positive attitude today.
They were waiting on his special boot before they could do physical therapy.
When I got home daughter was getting ready to take g-son to see his dad. She has to go to work tonight so she said the time would be about right for both of them. G-son's patience run out quickly, sitting in a hospital room.
They came back and g-son was sleeping,we layed him on the couch and while hubbie bush hogged in the pasture I took a much needed break to just sit and watch the birds in my back yard.I felt blessed when this little fledling wren who was raised in the little house hanging from this tree came back to pay a visit.I knew it was getting close to the time for them to leave the nest but with all the distraction of the last month I missed their flight training,so I was glad this one came back to let me know they made it. She first actually landed on the birdhouse but after I went to get my camera and came back she didn't get any closer than this tree branch. She kept singing that beautiful wren song.
As the sun started down I happened to look over at a moon vine I had planted and noticed this fragrant bloom opened up almost right before my eyes.I have wanted one of these vines for years and planted 2 this year one in front and this one on the dog lot beside the outside patio. If you've never smelled one of these flowers you have really missed something.
G-son woke up right before supper,he ate a huge supper, then helped pawpaw water tomato plants since a broken brace on the bush hog cut that chore short today.
D-in-love has been at the hospital with son this evening after #2 son left,so I'll stay home tonight and go early tomorrow to relieve daughter after she spends the night tonight . We're hoping tonight will be the last one that we feel someone needs to be there with him.
He has his catheter out and they are taking the PCA pain meds and IV out tonight. He will be on pain medicine by mouth from now on. He called me earlier and talked for quite awhile. He has a rash and I told him it may be the sheep skin pad they put under his leg,due to his wool allergy.
We are hoping home by the weekend, how wonderful that would be!!!!!
Thanking God for His blessings and praying for patience for son and all of us as we move along on God's time frame.
Good Night and God Bless.

JULY 4TH MARKS 24TH DAY OF HOSPITAL STAY FOR SON

Got to church service this morning for the first time since son's accident. Went to church last week but had nursery duty so today was a treat. For an hour I concentrated on God and took a break from the worries of son's recovery. Our church family is so wonderful and supportive,I'm so proud to be a part of this church.
I went to the garden when we got home and picked a mess of green beans,I've been craving green beans and mine are finally full enough to pick.
#2 son came and ate with us,daughter went to the hospital right after Sunday School. D-in-love's family is having their annual 4th BBQ so she's there.
I took the new hens the the rinds from our watermelon dessert and they were very thankful. I already have them spoiled to left overs, when I walk by they run to the fence looking for a handout.
#2 son is heading out to Petsmart to get supplies for Flash, his new pup.

Hubbie was laughing at all the toys and Carolina Blue bedding that he bought,he said kids are expensive. Like I said last night that little dog don't know how lucky he is!!!
G-son loves him also.....

I'm sure it won't be long before he has his own basset hound.
I came to the hospital at 4 to relieve daughter. Son has not been too co-operative today but when I got here they were taking out the catheter. Not long before the doctor came in and asked if it was out. He said they would start getting him up tomorrow,he said his foot looked really good.
It is pretty much up to his determination now, depends on how fast he wants to get better, how much he is willing to push himself. They just brought him supper and he won't even look at it,that's not a good sign,I'm sure they are reporting his food intake back to his doctors, not to mention the fact that he needs to eat for energy!
He had visitors tonight and wouldn't wake up to talk to them. Maybe God can reach down and shake him to make him realize he's not going to get better just laying there on pain meds.
I left him alone for a while before hubbie gets here, maybe that will get him thinking !!
I put him in God's hands weeks ago and now will trust God to do his will with him.
I spent the evening watering plants when I got home,it's 9:30 and I just got inside after putting dogs and chickens up for the night.
Hubbie has been catching opossoms in a live trap in his workshop,he caught another one last night,so I definitely don't want them in my hen house.
Once several years ago when I had a lot of chickens,an opossom got in their house while they were up on the roost pole and chewed several legs off the hens ( guess that's the part he could reach). That was a pitiful sight, the hens did not understand why they couldn't walk.
I'm sitting here listening to all the fireworks going off all around. The county has a big display at a nearby public park,we can't see them from our house but sure can hear them.
We used to take our kids there when they were small, until it got sooooo crowded you couldn't enjoy them.I like the pictures, you can see the beauty without all the noise !!!!!
After watching the news tonight I am headed for an early bedtime. Hubbie is spending the night at the hospital tonight as he doesn't have to work tomorrow. D-in-love does have to work so g-son will be here early in the morning.
Thanking God for another day filled with blessings and another day closer to son's recovery.
Good Night and God Bless.

DAY 23 HEALING SLOWLY AND PEACEFULLY

Market was very busy this morning,I was sold out by noon, wow! In the heat of the early afternoon the crowds thinned and we sellers wilted as our fans blew the hot air around.Hubbie went to the hospital about noon and took g-son to see his dada.
After market I picked up supplies for next week and headed home to unload the van.
Stopped by #2 son's house to check on the new puppy and drop off his puppy chow he asked me to pick up. He came in from work while I was there and started loving on that puppy. That little pup doesn't know how lucky he is to have gotten the home he did.
I still forgot to take a picture.
I did take a picture of this beautiful bouquet of flowers from a neighbor at market.

Sunflowers are so cheery ,you just have to smile when you look at them. If son was a flower person I would take some for him to look at but I'm sure he would think I'd lost my mind.
I helped daughter unload peaches, watermelons, and cantelopes she bought at the farmers market on her way home.
I stopped at Ingles on the way to the hospital to pick up son some fruit,it is good to have him ask for something to eat for a change.
Hubbie went home to mow grass when I got here. We all still feel we need to stay with son until he gets in a more positive frame of mind.
He was sitting up eating a little of his supper when I got here and looks soooooo much better. His color is good and he seems so peaceful. He said he could rest today without having to worry about having more surgery.
I am fighting sleep myself tonight, after fighting the hot weather all morning I am drained and would like nothing better than to just lay back and nap. Nappings not going to happen with my achy hips and knees and this hard chair,no not happening.I'll just watch son sleep. And pray that his body is healing while he rest so peacefully.
As boredom sets in here are some scenes from the room.I hope he heeds this sign!Maybe he sat up so I wouldn't take another picture of him !Through a very dirty hospital room window,Old Glory is still a beautiful sight !
Hoping everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July !!!!!!!!
Good Night and God Bless.

SON'S "CHALLENGING" SURGERY DAY 22

Hubbie called early and said son went down at 6 am to prep for his surgery. He was really nervous, but they told him they would have him in "lala" land in no time.Had a busy morning ,baking and icing cakes ,forgot to eat breakfast, had a salad about 11:00 wondering why I was so hungry, duh !
Hubbie called and said the surgery was taking longer than the 4 hours they had predicted because of the massive amount of damage they found when they got in there.
Finished icing about 1:00 and headed up to work at church.
Got a call from hubbie on my way saying they just finished the surgery,it was successful,he had to have a blood transfusion, and would be in recovery for at least an hour.
After I got back from church, I changed clothes and headed on over to the hospital.
Hubbie was leaving when I got here and son was just getting settled down.
They have him on a morphine drip,at a really high dose and he is doing a lot of sleeping. The doctor that did the surgery came and examined his foot and said he was pleased with how things went down there, only time will tell now.He said this surgery was certainly challenging. He said he would have to have re-hab and months of recovery. We already knew that !!!His leg is normal color and feels really warm to the touch for the first time in over 3 weeks.
He is drinking everything in sight, says he feels like he's been in the dessert all day.
I have made 2 trips down to the cafeteria for gaterade and juice along with water they are bringing him.
It is 7:30 now and we just had a nice talk , so maybe he is coming out of the fog more and more.
Already the nurse noticed the swelling in his foot has decreased and she could feel the pulse.
Daughter just sent me a picture of #2 son's new purchase. He has been looking everywhere for a basset hound puppy,he has his whole yard fenced and has been ready for a puppy for several weeks. In this weeks Iwanna paper there was an ad for 2 lemon colored pups which was what he wanted. I called to see if they still had them before I even called son. They had already sold both of them but had a pup that they were going to keep because it looked just like "Flash" from the Dukes of Hazzard tv show. Just last night they had decided to sell him if anyone wanted him because they needed money more than another dog. And the best part was that they were located in Mars Hill about 45 minutes from us. I called #2 son and told him what I had found out. He said call them back and tell them he would take the puppy, if they would hold it for him until he got off work and could get there. The price was significantly lower than any we have seen.
He wanted daugther to go with him to get it to navigate my directions.
In the picture he looked happy with the pup, looked like a match made in Heaven. It was to late when I stopped by to see it tonight on my way home from the hospital to get pictures of the cute little thing. It is 8 weeks old,fat as a butter ball and wants to be a lap dog all the time. G-son and hubbie were at #2 son's house waiting for me and that puppy loved to play with g-son.
I came home to finish my icing. It is 12:30 and I'm just finishing up and boy am I ready for bed.
Thanking God tonight for answered prayers and asking for His healing touch on son's leg.
Good Night and God Bless.

DAY 21 PREPING FOR THE MAJOR SURGERY

Up early and off to market, heard from daughter right before I left, son had been taken down for an ultrasound of his good leg to locate a vein to use in the by-pass.
Market was pretty good and lots of people came by to ask about son and offer prayers on his behalf.
A message from daughter said that they had to give son 2 bags of plasma because his blood was way to thin to even do the arteriogram.
I left market and ran my weekly errands before picking up supplies for tomorrow's baking.
Daughter had g-son here when I got home and they helped me unload and put things away.
Daughter had to go to work at her part time job at Fat's this evening.
#2 son came up and helped hubbie and I move the chickens into their new abode. They started scratching in the soft dirt as soon as we put them in the lot. After having like 50 or more chickens to take care of it seems funny to just have these 3 girls, but I'm looking to get them a boyfriend soon and some more girl friends.
The house they have is pretty small so that will limit my numbers.
I will need to shut them up in it at night as we have coyotes ,foxes, dogs and other preditors around here especially at night when I put up my 2 australian shepperd guard dogs. They actually climbed up and got in their house about dusk tonight,I was afraid I would have to go out after dark and put them in it.
It was extremely hot and we sure did our share of sweating out there getting this set up,but now it's done.
Hubbie came in,cleaned up and went over to the hospital to spend the night with son tonight.
After the arteriogram today they decided to do the surgery in the morning at 8:00.Prep will start at 6:30. Son is very anxious about this surgery. I think he has gotten so far down because of the antibiotic fever and so weak from not eating anything that his emotional state is in shambles right now.
They took him to do a chest x-ray tonight and both d-in-love and I told hubbie to go for food while he was gone having that, but he waited until he came back, so son called d-in-love while she was here melting down again. He was alone at night and hurting from them taking him for the x-ray.
After hubbie got back with food and son ate something he was much better and had settled down some.
Prayerfully this surgery will go well and fix the problems he has in his foot.
Sadly the doctors said had they been involved earlier the by-pass probably wouldn't have been necessary.
Thanking God for opening these new doors for son,we think the timing was bad but we have to realize that we don't have the ability to understand God's timing of things.
Good Night and God Bless
