SUNNY SUNDAY

Woke to a sunny, warm morning on this Sunday. Checked the rain gauge for yesterday's rain total and wasn't surprised to see less a tenth of an inch in there.
Church was good this morning and we had 4 people join today, one young man to be Baptized.
Everyone made it to lunch of grilled pork chops or chicken breast, fresh green beans, corn, potatoes, fried okra with cottage cheese fruit salad for dessert.
After we ate Hubbie had to be at a Deacon's meeting at 3, don't know why they moved it up that early.
We all visited until he got home then Hubbie and I went by and picked up bro and sis-in-law and headed over to daughter's house to meet up with her and both son's and g-son to unload the frig and put some blinds up in the garage.
Hubbie and I went back over to bro-in-laws house and had a nice visit with them and niece and her son.
We didn't realize it was after 7 pm before we left.
After chores back at home we relaxed for the rest of the evening.
There was thunder in the distance but today was not our turn for rain either, maybe tomorrow!
I still can't shake this head cold completely and have decided that I had better get back on a regular exercise routine even in my busy life right now.
Starting in the morning I am going to begin my walks early enough to be comfortable before the heat bears down.
I enjoy these walks very much but just got out of the habit and now must make myself get back into the habit without any excuses !!

Grateful to God for all His blessings on my family.
Good Night and God Bless.

MARKET SATURDAY AND 1961 AUGUST MEMORIES

Market was busy again today ,there was a crowd up until about noon when the heat got pretty bad and only us sellers were left to contend with it for a couple more hours.
Daughter stayed all day and she sold out of her things by noon but I still had a few to go.
After leaving market she went to a dog sitting job and I stopped at Ingles on the way to pick up a few groceries and drove through hard rain all the way until about 1 mile before my house and guess what ? It is still not our turn for rain as we only got a short shower and then sunshine. I looked at the thermometer in my van and it said 87, I had to chuckle thinking whew how nice that temperature felt !!!
#1 son and d-in-love brought g-son by shortly after I got home so they could go to a friends wedding tonight.
Daughter came by and we loaded up some shelves and chairs she had bought for her house and took them over and put them in her garage. The neighbors had put a congratulations balloon on the porch rail.
She went back to her pet sitting job and we came home to relax with g-son awhile.

In August of 1961 as well as all August my oldest brother became a year older.
Here are me with both my brothers on the oldest one's 5th birthday, look at that smile !!
I don't really remember these times but looking at the background in these old pictures sure stirs up memories. Looking at that old refrigerator behind us makes me think of the time my dad carried a long lizard into the kitchen in the cuff of his pants leg and it ran under that frig. What a frenzy that caused.
I also remember the old plastic kitchen curtains mom always kept on the windows.

Tonight I feel like I have had a busy week for sure and it has caught up with me as I am yawning at 10:00 and looking forward to crawling into bed and sleeping without worrying about all I have to do tomorrow for a change.

This weeks forecast at least is missing those numbers that begin with 9 for a change.Hopefully we will get our turn with those rain percentages. I'll leave that decision to God as I'm confident He knows best.
G-son wanted to spend the night but because of his stomach upset problems he is still having we decided to wait as a little girl at church started with the diarrhea and then quickly got really sick. Hopefully his is just drainage from his sinus.
He went home around 11:00 and hubbie and I went straight to bed.
Thanking God for a wonderful day.
Good Night and God Bless.

BIBLE SCHOOL COMMENCEMENT

This morning gave hope for rain with all the clouds so early in the day ,but it was not our turn for the rain. With limited sunshine at least the temperature stayed in the low 80's all day.
I spent the morning baking cakes, 32 layers , 3 pound and 2 wine cakes. I finished just after lunch.
I had 2 Avon deliveries that I have been putting off until I get rid of my cold because they are both elderly ladies and I did not want to give them the gift of my cold. I took their Avon orders to them this afternoon.
#1 son and g-son came by and helped Hubbie and me unload a desk someone gave me out of his truck so he can take daughter's frig and some shelves to her house tomorrow.
Son's doctor told him he wanted to wait 2 more weeks before he completely got off his crutches. G-son was feeling better today.
Bible School commencement was tonight.
This was most of the kids who came tonight.

We met all the parents of our class tonight and hope to get some of them in Sunday school.

Pastor in his monkey suit hat.

G-son taking it all in during the commencement which was followed by a hot dog supper.
I skipped out on Hubbie and daughter ,leaving them to clean our classroom while I came home to ice the cakes I baked this morning.
Before I iced cakes I carried water to all my potted plants ,giving up on our chance of any rain today.
Finished icing by 10:30 tonight with my early start so after listening to the news I'll get an early bedtime.
Another Bible School week is in the books and it was a good one,4 young lives were given to Christ this week making all the work well worth it.
May God get all the glory !!
Good Night and God Bless.

DAY 5 OF VBS AND THE VIEW FROM HERE

Market day was pretty busy today. Had my last big camp order for the summer season.
A bit of excitement in the building today as a robbery occurred but was stopped by a neighbor after he saw a young man reach across one of the older ladies tables and grab money from a box she had it in. He caught him just as he reached the door and made him give it back. The young man ran and the police were called to file a report in case he comes back.
After market I ran regular errands and headed home to help daughter work on a photo collage for VBS.
Tonight was the last night of class for Bible School this year and it went well. We had our regular 10 kids . G-son didn't feel like going tonight so he stayed home with Pawpaw until his dad came home.

I'm behind on things around here as well as keeping up with reading blogs but I will catch up.
A little late is my "view from here" photo at the first of August.
As you can see things are drier now than they were and the hazy days of summer are here. Haven't had much time lately to sit out here and enjoy the view.
Here are some sad garden pictures this month.
My cucumber vines are slowly wilting away ,they have been producing so well I hate to see them go.
Browning bean vines mean the end of fresh green beans for us until some late beans we planted come in,that is if they don't dry up as well.

On the brighter side of the farm the little red ornery hen hatched 5 chicks this past weekend.
She is a very protective mother as I knew she would be.

It is very hot tonight,80 very humid degrees at 11:00 with storms in the distance but nothing sounds close.
One more day of this weeks crazy schedule, then getting ready for next weeks crazy schedule as daughter is set again to close on her house Tuesday.
Hope to feel better tomorrow as I'm slowly getting rid of this cold and stuffy nose I've had and I really need to catch up on some things tomorrow.

God is always good and always loving of all His children.
Good Night and God Bless.

DAY 4 OF 2011 VBS

Morning Glory !!! These grow in my front yard flower bed every year. I guess some people consider them a weed around here but I think they are beautiful. They bloom in the cool morning and then close tightly into buds when the heat and sun become to much for them.
Glorious was how I feel today after a rough start to the night last night I found a trick that worked miraculously.
I had been coughing pretty bad all evening at Bible School and when I layed down it only got worse. Suddenly I remembered reading that putting Vicks Salve on the bottoms of your feet would stop you from coughing. I got up slathered both feet with the salve and layed back down. I never coughed another time and just barely can remember laying back down I went to sleep so fast. Thank you Lord, I needed a good night's sleep to maintain my fading energy level this week.
After chores this morning I refilled all the bird feeders and watered my potted plants as it doesn't look like rain anytime soon.
I did 3 loads of extra end of month laundry between icing 6 caramel cakes and cleaning floors.
Daughter baked some then went to get her hair cut. She is back and forth with her lawyer on the closing, maybe 6 tonight, maybe not.
G-son came after lunch while his dad went back to the doctor. He isn't feeling up to par either and my back started hurting again so he and I spent some quite time this afternoon on the couch.
Then it was up and off to Bible School for the 4th night. We had 10 in our class tonight with no help. Everyone is wearing out including the kids. They didn't even want to listen to the story tonight.

G-son felt better after he got into the activities with his class.
I am very tired tonight and when I got home I iced 6 more caramel,3 chocolate and 2 coconut cakes.
Daughter didn't close today, maybe tomorrow but more likely next week now.
She is really aggravated with the whole situation.
It is 11:45 and I still have to do some weekly paperwork before bedtime.
Praising God for sustaining me through this week.
Good Night and God Bless.

UP AND DOWN DAY 3 OF VBS

Today will definitely be a test of my multi tasking abilities. After chores and breakfast the race began !!
I put the first load of laundry in to wash while I started baking my cake layers. Between 5 loads of laundry I managed to finish baking 46 cake layers and get 5 pound cakes in the ovens.
I had worked right through lunch time so after the pound cakes went into the ovens for an hour I ate some lunch and then started month end house cleaning projects as well as regular cleaning. This causes several extra loads of laundry and 2 of them will wait until tomorrow so I can hang them on the clothes line.
By 3:30 I had everything done and was getting ready to sit outside for a little while when daughter came in and reminded me I needed to go to the bank with her either today or in the morning. So I did my sitting in her car on the way to the bank. Got things taken care of there but while we were there she got a call from her banker saying the closing for her house may not happen tomorrow because of an address discrepancy on the sellers realty description which was already supposed to have been addressed but wasn't.
As we came home the realtor called and said they thought they had it solved so we'll see tomorrow I guess.
I did the evening chores and got g-son and headed for Bible School.
Daughters and my class grew again tonight as we now have 11.
And the behavior level went down several levels tonight, probably because each new addition has been male and now they are all competing for the silliness award !

G-son felt better tonight and looked like he had a good time.

The dancing part is still his favorite and there's no stopping him when the music starts.

That's his little behind as he demonstrates his break dancing routine.

And here is yours truly racing in the penquin walk competition ,yeah, our team won !!!!!

On a very sad note tonight God called home a very special angel yesterday.
This man John Crowe was a true soldier for the Lord,he was one of the hardest workers on the mission trips and anything else that went on in the church.
John lost his life in a construction accident in downtown Asheville yesterday. Doing what he was always doing ,working hard.
He leaves behind a true soul mate ,his wife Susan.
Please keep her in your prayers as she seeks the Lord' s comfort in her loss. I'm sure John is up in Heaven looking for a hammer to fix something right now.

I ice 6 caramel cakes tonight and am coughing my way to a hot bath and bed tonight to hopefully get this tickle out of my throat and get another good night's sleep.
It is still very hot and dry but the temperature at almost midnight is 72 which is cooler than it has been.
May God bless our VBS and glow in the glory of it as well as blessing Susan in her loss.
Good Night and God Bless.

DAY #2 OF VBS

Had a short to do list today so when daughter asked me to go over to her house with her to take the sign and lock box off the door I grabbed my camera for some before and after photos.
G-son was here while his mom and dad attended the funeral of a friend's sister.
The grass had been mowed and there has been more rain there so everything was still green. I made a bunch of pics that I will publish as we work on the inside and outside. There are so many different colors in this house it is amazing .Every inch of the house will have to be painted to cover up the nastiness.
G-son making himself at home already.
We stopped by Staples on our way home to get some of their back to school specials.
Then after lunch when #1 son and d-in-love got back ,he went to work at his shop,
and d-in-love and daughter took g-son to the Smurf movie.
He is stuffed up in his nose and I hope he isn't getting my cold.
I spent the afternoon canning tomatoes again.
I have 13 more quarts for the pantry.
I just finished in time to get ready for Bible School. G-son came by to go with me.Daughters and my class grew to 9 tonight. The music is still g-son's favorite part and he loves to dance. Here he and his friends watch the games on stage. Here our preacher and his Aunt T partner up in the balloon race.

Day 2 was a good one but I am tired tonight.
I'm not baking any cakes tonight, think I'll start anew in the morning.

God's love was the lesson for tonight and you could feel it in the lives of these kids.
May the Glory of this VBS be to God.
Good Night and God Bless.
