ROUTINE WEDNESDAY FOR A CHANGE

Yuck another muggy, hot morning. Extra water for everyone this morning as I did the chores.
After breakfast I started a load of rugs in the washer and then baked my pound and wine cakes.
I did 2 loads of rugs and hung them on the line to dry in the hot bright sunshine. At least I've found something it's good for !!
I cleaned floors all morning and they sure needed it as I let them go last week.
After lunch I swept all the outside porches and patios and was sweating like I was digging ditches instead of leisurely sweeping.
The temperature was 92 this afternoon and I could hear distant thunder, but we escaped any storms of course we didn't get any rain either.
After supper I watered all my potted plants again, they are sure soaking up the water in all this heat.
I finished the book I was reading this evening,"The Moonshiners Daughter" , this book is not for the faint of heart , it was definitely a tough life for this young lady as she grew up in an abusive family.
I also spent some time working on my second blog book this evening as I stayed inside in the cool house.

When I saw this photo in the local paper I just had to share it. Birds are sure inventive when it comes to placing a nest.
Tomatoes make a good roof and if they happen to get a worm in them it would be instant lunch!!!

Daughter is getting down to the wire on her house loan, she is still trying to get the chlorine out of the water so they can retest.
Then we'll see what the next hurdle will be. Her closing date is Monday but I don't see her making that. All depends on what happens this weekend I guess.

I iced chocolate and coconut cakes tonight. I have a feeling there won't be many people braving the heat tomorrow to come to the market.
Thanking God for the blessings of today
Good Night and God Bless

HOT JULY TUESDAY

Another hot day was already beginning at chore time this morning.
After breakfast I started a load of laundry and then iced caramel cakes. Alternating between cakes and laundry I managed to finish both by lunch time.
I did some house cleaning this afternoon and took a break outside under the covered patio where there always is a breeze coming over the hill.
As I sat this little guy paid the feeder a visit along with several other hummers I wasn't quick enough to get pictures off.
Seems there is more hummingbirds this year than in the past or maybe I'm just noticing them more.

Then temperature reached 90 this afternoon and stayed there until the sun went down.
There were a few light clouds passing over but no rain anywhere close.
G-son came by this evening while mom and dad were busy and I noticed how big and independent he is getting.
He likes cold waffles and went to the freezer and got himself one out. I had to call him back and show him how to re-close the bag. After he finished one he went back for another and re-closed the bag just as I had shown him.
His dad picked him up and I was left alone for a little while as Hubbie had gone over to daughter's house to run more water trying to clear the chlorine treatment .
I read some more in my book and just enjoyed the quietness of the evening.
With all the icing today I'm taking tonight off, my back still hurts and is sore so I'm getting in the bed early tonight.
Thanking God for the blessings of today.
Good Night and God Bless.

TOMATO MONDAY

Late start this morning after not sleeping well at all last night. I think the tall glass of ice tea I had just before bedtime was the wrong thing to drink that late.
Anyway my animals forgave me as soon as they saw the food in my hands.
I refilled all the bird feeders for my feathered friends.
As I ate breakfast I decided on my schedule for today and sat out to make a couple large Avon deliveries.
Back home I cut the remainder of money plant and bagged and loaded it in the van to take to market. As I did this it started raining but really never got going enough to do any good and then the sun came out to steam things up. Even with the early clouds and shower the temperature reached 87 this afternoon.
Hubbie had gathered all the tomatoes off before spraying and they were waiting !!
We only grow heirloom varieties and we get different shapes and colors but boy do they taste good !!
They also look really pretty canned in jars.
This was another job for today that I could cross off the list !

Hubbie took 1/2 day off this afternoon and he and #2 son who is taking a week off from his P.O. job worked over at daughter's house getting the garage door up and running.
Daughter is working back at school this week and next.
I took time to rest some this evening as my back has been bothering me today. I was afraid I was getting a kidney infection until I remembered lugging a large bag of bird seed around yesterday.
I baked 48 cake layers tonight. I thought I was going to get to bed early but that's not happening. It's after midnight and I'm waiting to get the last ones out of the oven.
God has blessed me today as He does each day and I am so thankful for His care.
Good Night and God Bless.

THANKFUL SUNDAY

Sometimes I just have to take time to thank God for the place I'm in and this morning as I was listening to Roho the rooster crowing his heart out to start the day was one of those times.
I love my life and those around me including my feathered and furry friends. So thankful.

As I got ready for church I knew this was going to be a good day.
We had an uplifting service and the church was almost full today.Thankful for my church and God's salvation.

We had a delicious lunch of fried squash, baked potatoes, cucumber salad and tomatoes fresh from our garden , corn on the cob from a neighbor' s garden and Hubbie grilled chicken breast. #1 son,#2 son, daughter ,Hubbie and me enjoyed the meal.Thankful for my garden and fresh produce.
Afterward a man came to pick up another piece of equipment #1 sold. #2 son had a 3:00 tee time to play golf with some friends. Daughter, hubbie and #1 son went over to her house to put the water treatment in the well and check out the garage door. I went to Tractor Supply to pick up bird seed. Thankful for the beauty of the birds of the air.
The sun kept trying to peek out all day but never made it for long at a time.Blue sky was a rare sight today. The temperature hovered at 80 degrees all day under the clouds.Thankful for a not so hot day!
As I sat out in the outside patio looking down through the woods I noticed my money plant was ready to cut and dry.I cut 15 bunches in only a few minutes.
I bagged it and loaded it in the van.
I hauled it around to my sewing shop ,put up a wire and hung the bags up in the ceiling to wait their turn to be taken to market.
There is more to cut and I will take it out to market and clean the husks off in my spare time between customers. Thankful for the plants and their beauty.

As I did evening chores I realized I forgot to mark the date this lady started her setting.
She is an ornery one for sure.
It's amazing the individual personalities of these chickens, some of them are very friendly and don't mind what ever I do with them, others (like this lady) are just plain mean and won't to be left alone. She will be a very protective mother.

This lovely lady wound up with a family of 6 and she was one who never fused no mater how many times I lifted her to check her eggs. 6 out of 9 eggs she had hatched.Thankful for the miracles of farm living.

I took time tonight as darkness overtook us to sit out in the sun room in the coolness of the evening and read my "Moonshiner's Daughter" book. Thankful for modern conveniences.
A night off is a rare thing during these very busy months so I'm thankful for Sunday evenings and the rest they bring.
God Is so good !!
Good Night and God Bless.

BUSY MARKET DAY , 1971 JULY PICS

Greeted by another drizzly cool day which felt so good. As I finished chores and got ready for market I was thankful not to be drenched with sweat as has been the case the last couple Saturdays.
Market was extremely busy today, all day. We sold everything but a couple chocolate cakes. It was a good day for daughter and I. At times the isles were packed with people which I haven't seen in quiet some time.
After market I rushed home to cook for a benevolence dinner for the family of a member of our church. I cooked green beans and took one of my chocolate cakes and sliced some fresh cucumbers.
I changed clothes and headed up the road hoping I would get there in time. The funeral started at 2:00 and the burial was just down the road in our church cemetery.
I made it with plenty of time to spare, thankfully !!
This was the largest family group we have served in a while but we had plenty of food and the family enjoyed the fellowship with one another greatly.
The man who passed away was a retired minister and teacher at the local Bible College.
I got home at 6:30 from there and finally got to relax and put my feet up. I read some in my cousin's book that I bought at the family reunion last Sunday.
My cousin sent this picture of all the family that attended the reunion. There was quiet a group of us who attended.

I have spent an evening just flat out resting. The temperature is almost chilly tonight as I sat out on the sun porch but it is going to be short lived. After 2 days of cool, cloudy, drizzly weather the rain gauge only had about 1/4" so we still need rain.
The heat is going to climb steadily starting tomorrow and I'm sure the rain if any that comes with the hot days won't be as peaceful as the drizzle we've had the last couple days!

July is the month for watermelon eating and in 1971 I was enjoying some as my mother posed with me for this picture.I guess this was my 17th birthday cake !!!!!!!!
My dad got in this picture also.
Getting an early bedtime tonight to catch up my rest tonight and tomorrow before another busy week starts.
Grateful to God tonight for a wonderfully caring church family and praying for His comfort to the family who lost the wonderful man who is now watching from Heaven.
Good Night and God bless.

COOL DRIZZLY DAY IS WELCOME RELIEF

Woke to a cool rainy day this morning, what a change!!! A welcome one for sure.
After chores Hubbie and I headed up to church to work in the cool this morning.
We finished by lunch time and it was still drizzling rain as we drove home. This has been pretty much the story all day,and the temperature has been in the low 70's. More like fall feeling weather today.
I iced cakes all afternoon as well as baked the pound cakes and wine cakes I didn't get to last night.
#1 son and g-son came by for a while. The rain finally let up so Hubbie could get some weed eating in this evening.
The bank called to let daughter know that USDA state reps gave the wavier on the distance between the well and septic since it is well within state guide lines. So now we are jumping through hoops again. We called to have the electric turned back on so we can treat and retest the water as there is chloroform in the water because it has been sitting unused for so long. Also we will have to fix the garage door so it will open and close before they will approve the loan, more wasted money if they decide at the last minute not to give her the loan. But she has no choice at this point but to go along with their demands. In a usual situation these repairs would be the responsibility of the seller but since this is a foreclosure it's different.
I went to Lowes with Hubbie and while he looked at what it would take to fix the garage door I scanned new washer and driers as I am giving my old ones to daughter.
Back home I iced more cakes and did the evening chores while Hubbie did more weed eating. I picked cucumbers again and got almost 1/2 bushel. I need to check what kind of seed I got this year because this has been the best producing cukes we've had in a long time. I have enough to slice some for a benevolence dinner tomorrow evening and for some more of that yummy cucumber salad for Sunday lunch.
It feels so good outside tonight I wish I had time to sit out here and watch darkness come, but there are more cakes waiting for icing inside so maybe God will give me a rain check on the cool evenings.
Thanking God for today's blessings and for the forgiveness of all our sins.
Good Night and God Bless.

ONE OF THOSE DAYS !!!!!

Ahhhh!!!! Feeling better this morning, just kinda like I've been hit by a big truck that rattled my brain.
Daughter came up and helped me load the van and I'm off actually early.
I picked up my Avon on the way, finally got set up and then spent a pretty slow morning. Got caught up on some blog reading ,forgot to bag my Avon orders, only had one check so I couldn't mail the bills I took with me to do,sooooooo!!!!!!!
I just sat thinking of all the things I could be doing !!!!!!
Business picked up around noon and all my orders got picked up. Daughter came in after the volleyball camp was over and brought me a cream cheese /chive baked potato from Wendys for lunch.
After I ate I felt almost normal again thankfully.
After market I ran some errands and picked up baking supplies on my way home. Got home around 4:30,daughter helped me unload and put things away.
She is still waiting to hear the final decision on her house loan, she should hear something soon we hope.
I am totally wiped out but there is no time for rest this evening. All my potted plants are suffering for water so I carried water for a while.
#1 son and g-son came by and g-son went with us to Sam's Club for some supplies. Unfortunate for me I discovered that they are not carrying the commercial coffee filters that I use for my cake layer pan liners. Hope I can find them on the internet to order.
We came home, g-son went home ,I did the evening chores and had to take a short break before baking time started.
I baked 60 cake layer again tonight. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day as I still have some catching up to do from last night.
It's midnight and the last layers are ready to come out of the oven and I'm sure ready to get into that bed.
Thankful for the blessings of today, just some days we have to look harder to see them than other days.
Good Night and God Bless.
