JUST MONDAY AND 1997 MEMORIES

Yes !!!!! It's Monday around here !!!!!!

A much needed bright spot on this Monday morning.

I took g-daughter RL to preschool for half day and I did laundry this morning while she was gone. Hubbie and I also went through a box of toys to get some new girls toys out.
After I picked RL up she slept for over an hour while we had lunch and fed IR her afternoon bottle.
RL ate her lunch when she work up then her and hubbie went outside to swing while I tried to get IR down for an afternoon nap. She was having a hard time going to sleep but finally I got her down in her swing for over an hour.
After both the girls were picked up hubbie and I watched the news. Hurricane Maria is going to get too close for comfort to the Outer Banks of the NC coast and cause some pretty serious damage .
Back in September of 1997 we had a 7th grader, 9th grader and 10th grader and they were all very active in sports.
#1 son was playing his last year of JV football and they had an undefeated year .

#2 son had just finished a stellar season of baseball all stars who were NC state champions. They were recognized as they rode in the Apple Festival Parade.
And made a trip to Greensboro, NC to be recognized in a ceremony there.

Daughter was playing in her 1st year of middle school volleyball.
All three kids had their school year pics made that month.
#1 son in 10th grade...
#2 son in 9th grade.......
And daughter in 7th grade.
I was a very busy lady during this time as a friend of mine had opened up a business called the "Rusty Bucket" on highway 64.

She asked me to put up a booth in the market and sell my sewn and baked goods as well as other things I bought for resale. This was my booth.

She also rented outside spaces and daughter loved to shop those tables !!!
I also ran my Curb Market table and juggled the two on certain days. This is my market booth of sewn items back then. I wasn't selling baked goods there yet.
This is daughter a friend , Nickie (in red) , manning the cold drink tub at Old Timey Day that year.
I couldn't keep up both these business for long with all the sporting events that the kids were in so I gave up the Rusty Bucket booth in late winter and concentrated on Curb Market which proved to be a good decision as the Rusty Bucket never really became a productive retail business and now she rents it out as a beauty shop and barber shop.
I am tired tonight and an early bedtime sounds great.
Thankful for a blessed day and for the love of Jesus Christ.
God Bless and Good Night.

JUST A SWINGIN AND 1987 POOL PARTY

Up to greet this beautiful Sunday morning. Another summer like morning as I am out doing the chores in my short sleeve PJ's .
Daughter brought her dogs by early this morning as she is having an open house today from 2-4 at her house.
We all had breakfast and then she went home to do some last minute cleaning while hubbie and I got ready for church.
Church was short today as Pastor Craig was not feeling well. G-son was having trouble seeing the screen so Pawpaw let him try his glasses.
Lunch was roast beef, corn on the cob, green beans and mashed potatoes with Candy Roaster pie for dessert. This pie was delicious and everyone really liked it except the kids who all wondered where the "candy" was ???
Our lunch bunch today was Aa's family and #1 son and g-son.
Daughter and son-in-love came after a piece of pie and we had a nice visit as #1 son's family came back up also.
G-daughter IR got her first swing and she loved it

Of course g-daughter RL took her turn and wanted her brother to push her.

After they all left hubbie and I did chores and then relaxed for the evening.
Back in September 1987  bro and sis-in-law Marty and Sandy had just had a swimming pool put in and they hosted Bobby, one of the cousin's 6th birthday parties over there with a pool party for all the cousins.
Cousins from right of birthday boy Bobby behind cake, Aaron, Melanie,Holly, #2 son, sis-in-law Sandy,Chrystal, daughter, Dusty, #1 son, Tesheeka.
 #1 son showing off !!!!
 Daughter in her swimmies.
#2 son cautiously waits his turn on the steps.

Fun times back then with all these cousins around the same ages.
The day care where all the kids went back them had pictures made in September that year and they were very good pics.

Thankful for all the blessings of this day and thankful for a life filled with enjoyment with our kids and grandkids.
God Bless and Good Night.

MARKET DAY SATURDAY AND 1967 PIC

Up and ready to go to market this morning. Daughter met hubbie and I there with her baked goods. After we got set up business was pretty good all day. Hubbie and daughter walked down the street with g-daughter IR to a fruit stand to get some corn for lunch tomorrow as no one in market had any today.
Hubbie left to get home to work on cleaning off our garden and daughter and I took turns waiting on customers and taking care of g-daughter IR.
She was a good girl but needed to nap . After daughter and I both failed to get her to sleep the neighbor vendor Steve took her and got to sleep . he said his wife called him the "baby whisperer" and he worked his magic today on g-daughter.
She napped for over an hour which was very good for her mood.
We got ready and left at closing time. I made one stop at Sav Mor and then came home.
Daughter went home to rest . Son-in-love went with a friend to the Duke / UNC football game today.
After hubbie helped me unload and we got things put away hubbie went back to the garden and I took a rest. I am really tired this afternoon. Funny how market makes me more tired than any other day I work here all day.
When hubbie came inside we fixed some grilled vegetables with chicken for supper along with a couple ears of the corn he bought today.
We went back to the garden after supper and moved the new chicken tractor to a new spot in one end of the garden and then I did chores.
After chores we went down to #1 son's house to help get a book case upstairs to g-son's new room.
We came home and I put a Candy Roaster Squash in the oven to cook so I can make pies tomorrow from it.
The clouds rolled in this evening and we got a surprise short shower of rain tonight.
On this kind of boring day without any pics I will continue the decade series for the month. Back in September 1967 I had just started the 8th grade.
Praying tonight for all my kids that they may be safe and secure in all their activities in the coming days.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night

WELCOME AUTUMN 2017

Up to greet both g-daughters early this morning. Hubbie and IR rode with RL and I to school this morning to see if IR would get  a good nap in as she was already fussy this morning before we left.
After dropping RL off at school we made stops at sis-in-law Sandys to pick up some eggs she picked up for me last night and at Ingles to get some dark brown sugar which I forgot to buy yesterday.
G-daughter IR slept the entire time so it was a good decision to take her along this morning.
Back home she sat in her seat and watched while I got all my baking supplies set up .
Bernie is on guard of another baby even in his weakened condition!!
She was in a much better mood after her long morning nap.
Before I started my baking I treated myself !!!!   Sometimes you just have to push pause for few minutes !!!!!

I baked 12 caramel and 2 pound cakes before turning the ovens off and going to pick up g-daughter RL.
She didn't want much of her snack before we started for home as they had made biscuits in class today and evidently she really liked them so we started home and of course she went to sleep right away.
Hubbie carried her inside and she slept on the couch for 1 1/2 hours.
I finished my baking 2 chocolate, 1 cherry wine and 1 blackberry wine and 1 more pound cake plus a pan of pumpkin bars and a pan of brownies.
When g-daughter RL woke up Pawpaw and g-daughter IR were outside so RL had to go also.
I took her lunch to her to eat in the swing.
She ate everything on her plate and then went back to swinging even with strawberry jam on her face !!!
We all came inside just before their mom's came to pick them up. These two are going to be so much fun growing up together !!!

After they left I did chores then I started icing my cakes and getting things ready for market.
At 4:02 this afternoon Autumn officially began although today has felt like a summer day with mid 80's temps and bright sunshine. I look forward to this time each year as things seem to slow down a bit. I also enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves and the late summer blooms along with the smells that go along with chimney fires starting up and the chill in the air . Welcome Autumn 2017 I hope you are as wonderful as I know you can be.

Thankful for all the wonderful blessings of this day and for the opportunity to be in the lives of all my sweet grandchildren.
God Bless and Good Night
