BEAUTIFUL ST. THOMAS

We walked around on the ship this morning exploring all the activities available.

We watched as the island of St. Thomas slowly came into view.

We arrived here late morning and got off the ship to take a taxi across the island to a beach.

The ride over was in a converted pick-up truck that held  several bench seats in the enlarged bed.

The driver was reckless but talked about the island the entire time so that made the ride interesting but still very scary. As we crossed over the highest point on the island he had to stop and slowly go down the steep mountain side to the beach on the other side.
He told us there was no fresh water on this island and they had to import all their food because basically the entire island was a large rock.
We saw lots of free roaming chickens and iguanas as we made our way around the island.

The beach we chose was very beautiful and the water was a beautiful turquoise color.

As soon as we arrived the dark clouds started gathering and soon we felt raindrops. Fortunately there was a covered outside area that had a grill to serve food so we got a table and had some fried potatoes which were very good. We tried to be careful about what we ate or drank on these islands. We always carried water and we figured potatoes couldn't be that bad and they were delicious.
While we ate we watched the rain fall and then this beautiful double rainbow showed up.

We went back out after the rain and enjoyed the afternoon exploring on the beach in the clear water.
We changed the girls into dry clothes before we headed back.

Thankfully we were able to hail an older gentlemen with an air conditioned van taxi to get back across the island to the little town where the ship was docked.

It was hard to get used to driving on the wrong side of the road and both vehicles we road in had the steering wheels on the same side as we have here so that made it even more odd.
This man told us the island had suffered much hurricane damage over the past 3 years and they couldn't catch a break to be able to rebuild much as evidenced by the lack of roofs on houses on the hillsides and damaged buildings everywhere.

I noticed as we drove along that most of the commercial buildings had no windows.

Even with the damage still visible this was the prettiest place we stopped on the entire trip I thought.
We made it back in a much more relaxed ride than we had going over thankfully.
We shopped in the town that was all decorated for Christmas which seemed really odd since we were all soaked in sweat.

It was getting dark by the time we made our way back to the ship .

This towel animal was IR's favorite of the trip.

We watched from our room balcony as darkness fell and we sailed back out to sea.
I made it through my dinner tonight since we were still moving pretty slowly in calmer water.
The Christmas decorations are starting to appear around the ship tonight.
CA loved the attention she was getting from all the family members.

Thankful for the adventures of this day and the safety of the love of Jesus Christ.
God Bless and Good Night
