CARL SANDBURG TRIP AND OCTOBER 1989

A different Monday morning today as there is no school from either g-son or RL and d-in-love is going in late so we got to sleep later and have a relaxing breakfast.
I got chores done and then the kids came and also daughter brought IR and CA over.
After d-in-love left for work the rest of us got into a couple cars and headed to Carl Sandburg's goat farm. It is a really beautiful sunny warm day so we hate to waste it staying inside.

We let there and stopped at Sub Way for lunch and then came home for all the littles to get naps.
I got my weekly laundry started and g-son and hubbie went outside to work on getting the big blue slide attached to the playhouse trailer.
The kids will have a lot of fun playing in here.
D-in-love picked up g-son and RL and then I finished my laundry loads for the day.
I got chores done and then helped hubbie put some finishing touches of the slide attachment.
And little CA turned 5 months old today !!!!

In order to get all the decade pics for October on here I am going to make this post even longer with the 1989 October activities.  That year both boys wanted to play soccer but the rec department couldn't find a coach for their team. When they exhausted all other areas for coaches I said I would do it. I knew nothing about soccer and didn't even like playing it in recess when I was in school but I took the job so they could have a team and figured I could figure it out.
Thankfully one of the boys dad's offered to help and he knew all about soccer so that made it much easier although we figured out after the first couple games if we could just manage to get them all going the correct direction on the field we had accomplished a feat !!!

#1 son turned 8 years old that year on the 16th of October. He got to celebrate twice, once with all the cousins at his great grand mother's house .

And again at home with his favorite strawberry filled cake.

The kids got their school pictures that month also.
#1 son in the 2nd grade....
#2 son in 1st grade....

And daughter still in day care.....
The kids went all out that year dressing up for Halloween.
Thankful; for all these memories and for the blessings all along the way that got me to this day.
God Bless and Good Night

SUNNY SUNDAY AND 1949 PICS

A nice sunny warm Sunday morning to wake up to after a very rainy windy night that left 9/10ths inch of rain in the gauge and all the windows wet with rain where it had blown sideways in the wind gust.
We fixed macaroni chili this morning and put it in the crock pot along with cornbread.
Church was good and we came home to fix green beans, corn, and iced tea to go with the chili.
CA had another playmate today as EL loves babies.

Daughter's family and Aa's family were our only guest today as #1 son's family are in Tennessee having a late birthday celebration with a couple other families for g-son.
They look like they are having a great time.

They will be home later tonight.
After everyone left hubbie and I worked on the trailer playhouse and moved it to a better location to be able to attach the big blue slide to the side of it.
I got chores done and then took a walk around the lower pastures on this beautiful warm sunny evening.
Spent some time this evening going through pictures for the October decade series and the oldest I found was these from October 1949 of my Uncle Anderson Holmes admiring his very tall sunflowers.

And my  stepsister's son John who lived in New York.

I have tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with my step sister's son so if anyone out there in blogger land recognizes this pic please contact me by commenting on this post , thanks in advance.
Thankful for all the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night.

MARKET TRICK OR TREAT SATURDAY

UP to get to market this morning in the still light rain. We made it on time and got set up just before daughter and the girls arrived.
Today we had trick or treat at market since it is the Saturday before Halloween and IR got her first real experience of asking for candy and she loved it and everyone loved her and it didn't take her long to get her bag almost full of candy and goodies.

She was a tired happy girl by the time it was time to go home for a nap.
This is a pic daughter sent later of IR in a "candy coma" !!!
We had a pretty good selling day and am very thankful for all we did sell.
I keep waiting for that slow down in business but so far it hasn't hit that hard thankfully.
Hubbie stayed the entire day and helped me get loaded up then he went to Walmart for some supplies we needed.
I came straight home and got unloaded by myself in a still light rain.
As the day has went on it has gotten cooler from a pretty warm humid morning so it felt good to snuggle down under a blanket and have a nice cup of hot tea to unwind from the busy day.
It still rained all evening and we got chores done in a light rain. There was only 1/2 inch in the gauge from the all night and all day rain so it fell lightly.
I am determined to get caught up with my blog post tonight after an internet outage and not being able to get my I-phone and laptop linked up. I also need to do a lot of picture downloading and get my decade pics on here as it is getting close to the end of the month.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night

PUMPKIN CARVING PARTY

FRIYAY !!!!!   Got g-son off to school and got chores done. Hubbie and I dropped RL off at her pre-school then made stops at Ingles and drove to Fletcher feed to get stocked back up on chicken feed.
I managed to get the oldest hens separated and am going to sell them so that should cut my feed bill and they have stopped laying so they definitely need to be gone.
We stopped by #2 son's place to check on his house progress and the walls are up .

We came home and unloaded the feed and then I started my baking. I baked 6 caramel, 1 chocolate, 2 pound, 2 applesauce, 2 blackberry wine and a pan of brownies.
I had a late lunch then rested my back for a few minutes before I iced the caramel cakes.
We are going to daughter's to have supper and carve pumpkins tonight so I didn't want to have to come home and ice these.
We got chores done early and headed over there about 5:00 to take care of the kids while she got things ready for supper.
The trees in daughter's yard are showing their pretty colors .

IR was in a Halloween mood tonight for sure.
After we ate hamburgers and sweet potato fries with all the fixings the carving party got started.

IR wanted this face which Pawpaw managed.
And Pawpaw also managed to carve this owl for Addie.

We had this big pumpkin to get a picture of CA in it like we did IR last year but CA did not think it was a fun thing to do !!!
It was a very nice way to spend an evening and the kids all had lots of fun.
When we left daughter's at 9:00 the rain was coming down pretty hard and it looked like it had been raining for a while by all the standing water.
I got 1 chocolate cake iced and got things ready for market then went to bed to be lulled to sleep by the sound of rain drops on our metal roof. The rain is from a newly named tropical storm , Olga which is headed this way over the next couple days.

Thankful for all the blessings of this fun day.
God Bless and Good Night
