ICE AND SNOW CAUSES SCHOOL DELAY

Woke at 5:30 by my phone going off with the message that schools would be on a 2-hour delay. Hubbie was just leaving for work and he said it didn't look too bad around here.
I went back to bed and woke up when my 4-legged alarm clocks went off as a car went around the house. I thought it was g-son arriving but when I got to the door I was greeted by daughter. She was afraid she couldn't get up the hill to her house so she came by here to take a shower and have breakfast before work. Her friends grandmother made it through the night.
I am thankful she did as that wouldn't be a good memory of her for daughter if she had to see her die.
She had a lot of snow on top of her jeep but there wasn't any on the ground here as you can see in the background.

Hubbie called and said it was pouring huge flakes of snow on the side of town he works from. There were several inches of the white stuff in the southern parts of the county.

Fortunately the roads stayed just slushy and there weren't many accidents.
This month of March hasn't began very well for us with friends and extended family expecting deaths any day and bad news for Aaron and Rebekah about their farm loan, I am just praying that as the month goes on the news will get better.
I baked cakes all morning, 6 caramel,2 chocolate and 4 pound cakes.
After lunch I caught up February month end paperwork  then changed out some more decorations for more spring like things. Maybe the inside at least will look like spring !!
As I drove home from picking up g-son the surrounding mountains sure didn't look much like spring.

While g-son went straight to work on his new lego construction projects I worked on getting my internet connection back up. For some reason it just stopped working.
After checking all the wire connections and repeatedly running the diagnostic trouble shooter it finally came back on. Have no idea what I did to fix it.
After chores I iced my cakes then rested. I feel like something is not quite right tonight, hopefully I'm not coming down with something.
Talked to Rebekah today and she hasn't felt good all week and took little Evy to the doctor today. She has some type of virus and if she's not better by Monday she has to go back.
Maybe the warmer weather predicted for the next several days will take the "winter blues" and all this other crap away.
It is still 39 degrees at 11:00 tonight.
grateful for the love of God tonight and praying for all my family and friends as they strive to glorify His name.
Good Night and God Bless.

BOOK FAIR THURSDAY

G-son was a happy little boy this morning. This is book fair week and  today is "grandparents day" so both us grandma's are planning to visit the book fair with g-son. Other g-ma is going eary this morning and I am having lunch with him and going to the fair after we eat.
After chores and breakfast I headed into town to get weekly errands ran. It is cold today with temps below freezing  in front of a winter blast that will begin this evening and give us a mixed bag of snow, ice, freezing rain and rain.
As I finished my errands I picked up a chicken nugget happy meal and went over to g-son's school.
He was very glad to see me and grabbed that Mcdonalds bag from my hand as soon as he saw it.
He loves those chicken nuggets !!!
A long time friend was there with her g-son also so we had a nice visit while we all ate lunch together.
G-son was a happy guy today.
We shopped at the book fair until he got everything he wanted including a book to donate to his classroom.
I picked out one of the books with legos with it that he passed over, thinking he would really love playing with it.  That's what he played with all afternoon after I picked him up at 3:00.
The snow began earlier than predicted this evening. At chore time it was a white out with huge flakes blowing sideways in a bitter wind.
D-in-love had to make a trip to Lincolnton this evening for maybe the last visit with her paternal grandmother as she has given up the will to live and the docs called the family in.
Daughter went to spend the night with her friend while awaiting the eminent death of that grandmother also, as Hospice  said it probably would be tonight.
Praying for both these families as they loose these gracious ladies.
#1 son came after g-son and they went to spend some quality dad / son time while mom is away.
Spent a cold evening snuggled with my 4-legged kids tonight.
Wondering what we will wake up to in the morning as the weather wizards still have varying opinions on where the freezing temp line is going to be.
Just hope we don't have a major ice storm.
Thankful for my health tonight as I hear of all the sadness all around me. I feel very blessed by God to be as healthy as I am and give all the glory to my Heavenly Father.
Good Night and God Bless.

SIGNS OF SPRING ???? HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA

It was a routine morning around here with the temperature in the mid 20's when I got up. I took g-son to school, had breakfast then did chores.
I did some housework this morning and watered all my house plants. Some of my plants are looking pretty sad, if the warm weather doesn't come soon so they can get some outside time I don't think they will survive this prolonged winter.
After lunch I took a nice long walk as the temp warmed to the mid 50's and the sun finally won the battle with the clouds.
I was determined to find something starting to green up as I walked. On the south side and butted up against the basement apartment this bed of oregano has some green shoots starting to peek through.
As hard as I looked the only other green that looked springy was the swollen buds on this plum tree.
The prediction for snow for tomorrow night and Friday morning doesn't sound very conducive for spring growth.
They are back to working on the new bridge and this is the progress so far.
Although there are several workers each day the progress seems to be going really slow, but then again, I've never built a bridge before !!!
After I picked up g-son and got him settled in I did some decade photo searching.
My paternal grandfather was born on March 9,1854.  He spent his life serving the community that I still live in and lived to the ripe old age of 97.

Talked to daughter this evening and she said her friends grandmother had now been given only a couple days to live because of the speed her brain cancer was advancing.
Praying for comfort for this family as they say good-bye to a very special lady in their lives.
Hubbie and I watched Survivor tonight. I don't know why we get hooked on this show each time it comes on.
Thankful for the blessings of today and praying for the family of daughter's friend.
Good Night and God Bless.

COLD MARCH ????

Another cold low 20's morning to start off what looks like an unseasonably cold month.
This is the weather center predictions for this month and so far they are right on !
As I scraped a dusting of snowy ice from the windshield before g-son and I headed out to school it felt more like January than March. As I drove him to school I noticed all the surrounding mountain tops were covered with the dusting of snow and ice.
I had a pretty routine ,boring day of laundry and housework.  I did manage to get photo prints ordered to catch up last year.
After picking up g-son I listened to him read a library book while we waited on his dad to get here from work.
After chores and supper I laid down on the couch and couldn't keep my eyes open after I snuggled down and got warm. I had to get up and find something to do so I wouldn't ruin my night's sleep.
The temperature today didn't get out of the 30's and now they are saying some ice or snow for Friday morning. This winter just keeps hanging on for some reason.
I did a dance video this afternoon for some exercise but I am longing to get out in the warm sunshine for some long walks.
Praying for God's guidance for all my family tonight and for Aaron and Rebekah as they make major decisions.
Good Night and God Bless.

CHICK DAYS 2013 OFFICIALLY IN THE BOOKS

G-son was in one of his moods this morning, looking for excuses not to go to school. Glad hubbie was up to combat him this morning and get him going.
It is a rainy dreary morning, I emptied 1/4 inch of rain from the gauge this morning. The temperature early today is in the mid 40's and it will be dropping throughout the day.
I did chores and had breakfast then we went to Southern States for chicken feed. I also found another metal waterer on a discount table so it was a good trip.
We stopped back by Tractor Supply so hubbie could get dog food. The kind he uses for his beagles is cheaper there. They had all their baby chicks and ducks in for the spring and the cheeping was almost deafening. I would hate to work in there all day with all that noise. But they sure are cute little buggers!!!!

This is the time of year I hate to go into this store because I can hardly help myself from bringing several of these little fuzzy cute chicks or ducks home with me.  I saw hubbie shaking his head at me as I mooned over these little guys while he loaded up his dog food.
I reluctantly left empty handed today.
We came home for lunch then he went to help #1 son with his water leak as son had gotten off work early just as the rain started back up. The temperature is now in the upper 30's and the wind is starting to blow.
Well as I was left alone inside on this rainy day I wondered what I should do ???
Oh yes those dreaded taxes !!
So I turned off all the TV's, radio's and all other distractions and dove into our tax papers.
Hubbie came in just in time to go get g-son so I didn't have to stop in the middle of the figuring.
I finished ours just as he and g-son got in from school. I took a break and fixed g-son his after school mac and cheese and took a call from a lady who was coming to pick up a cake order. The rain has picked up this afternoon.
After g-son went home, the chores were done and things settled back down I decided to get daughter's taxes done also since this is a couple days out of my tax month time frame.
About 7:00 I turned the page on 2013 for good as all our taxes are done !!!
Yeah this is a little what I felt like but then hubbie said I should watch the basketball game with him to rest my brain.
We watched UNC/ Notre Dame game and UNC squeeked out a victory.
Hubbie went to bed earlier tonight at 9:00 and I am going to follow as soon as I finish this blog post. We need to get our schedules changed for next week's "spring forward" time change, yuck !!!
It is already 10:30 for me and I am still here so not as early as I wanted but a good start.
Now what's next on my "to do" list ????   March is sewing catch up month and I have pictures to get printed and another blog book to get to work on.  So March won't be a relaxing month for me.
Grateful to God tonight for the blessings of the day and for keeping my mind sharp enough to help out the kids with their taxes.
Good Night and God Bless.

BEAUTIFUL SUNNY SUNDAY

This morning was a beautiful Sunday morning as we all headed out to church.  Church was good, we had a send-off service for our senior pastor who is traveling to the middle east with another lady from our congregation and some folks from a couple other churchs in our area.
I found this old photo of from the late 40's of the congregation of our church. Pictured in the back row I located my Uncle Jay and my grandfather Mark. So proud to be in the same church my grandfather belonged to.

Everyone made it for lunch and we had a nice visit with Aaron, Rebekah and Evy about their trip to Disney World last week.

Unfortunately they came home to some bad news and now have a major decision to make. More on that later. Right now just praying for God's will for them to become clearer.
After lunch it was such a nice day we couldn't stay inside so we sat out in the patio and watched g-son spin on the swing.

By choretime the clouds had taken over the sky and the breeze cooled the moisture laden air making it uncomfortable to be outside.
After a high of 67 this afternoon we are still hanging out around 58 at 10:00 tonight. Looks like we are in for another week of interesting weather according to the 7-day outlook.
#1 son discovered a leak in his water line this evening and hubbie went down to help but they decided to wait until tomorrow instead of trying to work in the dark.
Winter storm Titan has wreaked havoc all across the country starting with heavy rains in California that caused numerous mud slides to feet of snow in places in the mid west. Now headed to the east coast it looks like the brunt of Titan will lift above us and if the cold air line doesn't drop we will get only rain from this storm.
Turning all my burdens over to God tonight and trusting totally in Him.
Leaving with this message for Aaron and Rebekah .

Good Night and God Bless.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY #2 SON

HAPPY 31st  BIRTHDAY #2 SON !!!!
He is a very successful, caring adult and we are very proud of him. He is also a great uncle to this little guy who thinks the world of his uncle D.

The predicted snow for our area didn't materialize thankfully and it was a regular market Saturday for me.
The crowd was low as expected after the "s" word in the forecast but I did sell quite a few things so I am thankful.
I got the news today that Rebekah got the table just across the isle from mine. She is going to sell sewn baby items and gluten free baked products which we have had many request for.
After market I stopped by Big Lots to check for a new chair for the living room. This weekend is 20% off everything but I didn't find anything but a few secret sister gifts.
Hubbie helped me unload the van when I got home and we relaxed and watched a basketball game between UNC/Virginia Tech  which UNC won.  We watched parts of a couple other games since there was nothing else on TV this evening.
I did chores and had a supper.
Aaron and Rebekah made it home from Orlando, Fl. where they have been this week at a Sod Grass convention.  They also got to take little EVY to Disney World which she loved.
Thankful for their safe travels.
Hubbie and I had a restful evening to end a hectic week.
March came in like a lamb today as we had sunny skies and mid 50's temperatures.
Thankful to God for the blessing of the day and looking forward to worshiping Him tomorrow with my church family.
Good Night and God Bless.
