What a day!!!!!Whew!!!! Glad this one is almost over. This all started late last night after I published yesterday's blog. We got a call from the assisted living facility where father-in-law resides telling us he had fallen and couldn't move his legs and he had just left in an ambulance headed for the hospital. Hubbie and his brother went to the emergency room to check it out.
After a battery of test the doctor on call decided their was nothing wrong with him except an old back injury and mild dehydration,so they would not admit him,he gave him some pain pills and sent him back to the facility,even though he was screaming in pain with each move!
Hubbie got home at 1:30 AM ,needless to say neither of us got much sleep. And a ringing telephone in the very early morning ours cut even what little we could have got short.It was the facility calling ,saying we needed to come and stay with him,as they were trying to push him in a wheelchair and he was refusing to hold his feet up (the wheelchair they have does not have feet platforms!). Hubbie was beside himself and didn't know what to say so he mumbled something about coming out later and hung up. Within 15 minutes the phone rang again,this time I answered as he asked me to take over, now they wanted to send him back to the hospital because they thought he had a TIA ,which he has a history of having and the hospitals want admit him from that either,already been there,done that!!! When I refused permission to send him to the hospital again she said okay and hung up.
We went to church,had a nice service,came home and were having lunch when the phone calls started again, demanding that someone come and sit with him 24/7,even though we are paying them $1800 per month to take care of him. I made some phone calls and tentatively lined up some thing for tomorrow morning,it's hard to do any business on Sunday. After several heated exchanges between nurses,directors and me I thought we had reached a solution to have them check on him hourly and we would pay extra until tomorrow. But within 30 minutes after coming to this solution with the director in charge( at least he thought he was in charge) another call,this time informing me that they had gotten hold of one of his doctors and she was going to have him admitted to the hospital. They were not going to baby sit him and had already called an ambulance,lyed to them saying he had fallen again to make it appear to be an emergency situation. They are lazy and do not do their jobs,and after talking to several other people tonight I'm not the only one who thinks this! If you live in the Western North Carolina Mountains and are looking for a facility for your loved one please contact me before you decide!!!
Being admitted to the hospital is the best case scenario right now so we can buy some time to locate a new place for him. Although they do not know what is wrong with him at this time. The doctors assistant called and had to laugh tonight,she said in their geriatrics practice she said she is used to dementia in her patience,but she said when she asked him what was wrong ,he told her he had leprosy!!!!! He only knew his birthday and nothing else so something is definitely wrong as he is in renal failure also. Perhaps due to kidney or bladder infection. I'll know more when the doctor calls tomorrow. At least for now he is under pain medication,happily watching the superbowl, but when she asked him who was winning ,he said "AHHH their just drinking cokes!!" Sometimes when God steps in He works in strange ways, creating delirium in our minds is a good way to protect us from the pain our bodies are in. And when you feel like you've reached a dead ended impasse such as I felt today when no options were acceptable to both parties,He always has options. God is just great like that! I can handle high pitched tones in voices and ultimatums and can give as good as I get so it is better if I deal with all this than hubbie or his brother as they are both mild mannered
and those nurses knew which buttons to push with them to get whatever they wanted out of them. They were surely surprised today when it wound up being another female they had to deal with not to mention one that has no buttons to push!!!! Although I am very thankful things turned out just as they did,it still is a shame what length people will go to not to do their jobs especially dealing with these older adults in these facilities. I know you never say never but for father-in-law to go back there will be a very,very,very last resort.
Okay that's enough venting for tonight,I think I can sleep now,maybe!
I am humbly grateful tonight,and asking forgiveness if I did or said anything unworthy (I was careful). May this be resolved in His way to His glory. Good Night and God Bless.

RIME ICE , COUPON ORGANIZATION
This will be a busy Saturday,Market is closed today,but we have a full day planned. After breakfast we headed to church to catch up on work there. Less than 70 people made it to church last Sunday,hoping tomorrow will be a full house! A power surge had triggered the lights,which were on when we got there and wouldn't turn off when we left.I called pastor and he told me which buttons to push on the computer panel to get them back working by the switches. The power must have been off at church yesterday or last night and when it came back on,the surge caused the problem. Several years ago lightning struck our church and damaged the entire electrical system,so when things go wrong it always makes me nervous.
It was almost lunchtime when we finished and there was a new Goodwill store we had been wanting to check out so we drove across the mountain (as we call it) into the ne
xt county.On the 
way, all the mountain tops were covered with Rime Ice. When I looked up the spelling of Rime,I also learned that this is Hard Rime ice which is formed by freezing fog, as you can see the fog still lifting in one picture. There is also a Soft Rime Ice and Hoar Frost,which I thought were the same thing,just called different names in different parts of the country,but they really are different types of frosty ice formed by different things.
We had a successful Goodwill trip as we both had an arm load when we finished,hubbie found a new deep sea fishing reel,I found several books I want to read when time allows and a pocket album to hold my coupons! I saw a news special the other day about a professional couponer and she said if you carry your coupons in a envelope in your purse (that's me) you won't use them because it's to much trouble to fumble through to see what you have (that's definitely me). If
you have your coupon
s organized by product in clear pockets so you can see them at a glance you save more money. She said the book she had cost about $5,well mine cost $1 today at Goodwill. I was totally surprised by my find,how many times do you go looking in a thrift store for a certain thing and find something perfect!I was so excited as soon as I got home I organized my coupons,drinks,vegetables,breads,desserts,etc, now have their own pages,easy to see. I can see how this will work so much better,you just have to remember to take the book in the store with you!!!
On our way home we ate at Wendy's,hubbie likes their chili.
Both boys are around this afternoon so we got them to help unload the hay a
nd get it in the barn. These rolls are the biggest rolls we have ever had so they are not easily moved around. The girls had to have a sample of the new hay and it looks like it met their approval. They have stayed in the barn for over a week now,I think we have fair weather cattle!!! Hopefully they'll get some warm sunshine on their backs tomorrow.
We finished the chores and I made some homemade Broccoli soup for supper,mmmm,it was so good,I'll have to do this more often. Hubbie said "this sure taste better than broccoli soup out of the can!" I used a packaged soup starter with 2 cups of milk,2 tablespoons of margarine and it said 2 cups of fresh broccoli,but I probably used 4 cups,as I wanted my soup thick. It only took about 20 minutes to make and it was delicious.
Kids are all playing cards tonight,I would have liked to join but I am tuckered out tonight and I still need to wash away my gray hairs tonight. So I'm going to rest awhile and then do the hair thing!! Hubbie is watching the first race of the season,he is a huge racing fan.

ICE,MORE ICE,RAIN,ALMOST FLOODING,ALL IN A DAYS WEATHER

ernight it snowed then started raining and freezing on everything. At least we still have power but at 8:00 it didn't look promising that we would keep it. These are some pictures I took around our farm this morning.Those blurred spots on the pictures are rain drops on my lens,sorry!Click on the pictures to get the full effect of the ice. Muscadine grape vines encased in a layer of ice.
The power lines were also getting
their share of an icy coating. 
The big Curly Willow tree in our back yard always looses limbs in an ice storm,I'm glad we trimmed all the limbs that could fall on our new sunroom.Nature has it's ups and dow
ns and this winter so far we've seen a lot of dow
ns,but even in the worse case scenarios beauty can still be found.I thought the picture of ice covered pine needles where a pretty sight on this dreary morning. And the hammock left outside was a definite conversation piece today.
However some of our neighbors down the road were probably hard pressed to find
anything pretty about today's ice storm. I pr
ayed for all the firemen and power workers all day today,as I listened to a steady stream of calls for help come through. Many folks will be facing expensive clean-up projects after this. It finally stopped raining this evening about 
6:30,the temperature has stayed about 35 
degrees all day. The weatherman tonight said we dodged a major snowstorm by about 3 degrees,whew!!
I'm not complaining,at least we aren't buried under 2 feet of snow like some folks north of us. My back yard is a littered mess and this evening the creek was on the very brink
of flooding but we
're very lucky and I thank God for sparing us.
Even in this nasty weather there was plenty of activity at the feeders today,bless their hearts they need to eat rain,snow,ice or whatever. But they really didn't look as though they even noticed the cold rain that fell all day. I spilled some seed yesterday while filling the feeders and a little squi
rrel was happy to clean it up for me,thanks cutie!! Most bird watchers don't like squirrels and I get aggravated 
at them at times,as they can damage feeders and their weight can knock some down,but I feel they deserve to eat also as sometimes all God's creatures need a little handout. Anyway just look at those big ole brown eyes and try to dislike him!!!!

STOCKING UP FOR MORE SNOW
After breakfast, exercise and meeting up with #1 son to give him a check to pay for the hay they are going after I headed to town to run my errands.It looks like it could start snowing or something any minute and as I went through my stops it seemed to get colder each time I got out of the van. Did a bad thing,I got hungry as it is after lunch time,instead of taking time to get a sandwich or something I bought a bag of sun chips at the grocery store and ate almost the whole bag on the way home, then I had picked up some interesting looking frozen chocolate covered strawberries at Go Grocery Outlet,I have never seen these before so of course I had to try some when I got all the groceries put away and wouldn't you know it while I read today's paper I ate the whole box,oh my.
They brought the hay in and just left it on the trailer until we can move things around and get it in the barn,it was easier to cover up on the trailer. That's another $180 that we didn't plan on spending,uhhh!!! The cattle haven't left the upper pasture all week ,tonight we shut the gate back because we are under a flash flood watch. Winter storm warning and flash flood watch,interesting weather we're having!
This is the picture I took the other day that made me wish for a telephoto lens so I could see this bird as he searched around and around this tree continuously pecking. I have tentatively identified him as a Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker.This is one I have never seen at the feeders so until I can get a better close up of him I guess that will have to stand. This is another little photo dodger cleverly keeping his face hid behind t
he feeder,but by the markings on his wings and belly and his size I think this is a Wood Thrush,he is also a new comer to the feeders. I refilled all the feeders tonight while I was outside,helping the little birdies get ready for the winter weather of tonight and tomorrow. We have about 2" of snow on the ground now at 11 and are having a break .The weather predictions are still calling for it to turn to freezing rain later,uhhh!! There's no telling what we'll wake up to in the morning. Temperature is hanging out at 33 degrees. We watched the Tarheels drop another game tonight,at least they made a game of this one. I've been chilled all evening,so I'm hoping a hot bath will warm and relax me for a good nights sleep.

CRACKER BARREL , STAR CONSTELLATIONS
Decided to wait for a couple hours before getting out on my deliveries this morning to let the sun melt some of the ice. I haven't been out since last Thursday so I have no idea just how good or bad the roads are. School started at 10:00 so that is when I headed out. Made all my deliveries,in a couple of places I held my breath and hoped I didn't get stuck in the snow,most people hadn't had their drives cleared and had just been driving on
the 
snow. It was surprising in some places to see the huge amount of snow piled up on the sides of the road,we're going to have snow around for a loooooong time. In most places you would be in trouble if you needed to pull off the road. With the temperatures like they are predicted to be for the next 10 days this dirty snow will hang around for a while. I noticed in Walmart's parking lot they were actually loading snow in dump trucks and hauling it to a far corner of their propert
y,that must be very expensive snow removal!!! The snow on the mountain tops is still so pretty as I drove home I had to make this picture to compare with other season's. This is one of my favorite places to photograph from the road because there is nothing to obstruct the view of the mountain.
I got home about lunch time and #1 son brought g-son over to stay a while as he needed to do some things. We spent some time trying to locate some hay to buy for our cattle,#1 son finally found some on the other side of the county,he and #2 son are going to get a load tomorrow.Hopefully it will be better hay than what we bought before. it has been a very nice day today 46 degrees and sunny,but changes are coming as we are already under a winter storm watch starting tomorrow night. They ar

All the family went to Cracker Barrel for supper tonight,it is my favorite place to go when I do go out to eat,which isn't often, but tonight was very nice. The kids got hubbie and I a gift card from there for our anniversary in December and with all the bad weather we hadn't got to use it yet so tonight was a good night. Actually a perfect night, it wasn't so crowded, all the kids were able to go,and the food was really good. I had my favorite grilled cat fish,mmmmmmm. There was enough left over to have for lunch
tomorrow,yea!!!
When we got home the sky was so clear, I could see the big and little dippers just plain as I have ever saw them. Isn't it amazing how the stars form constellations and I've always wondered why God placed them just so in the sky because you know He has a reason for the placement, just wondering???????? This is almost exactly what they looked like tonight as I gazed up into the sky while waiting for hubbie to fumble with his keys and unlock the door,we forgot to leave the porch light on!! I don't know much about other star formations but these were unmistakable tonight. Wish I had a camera that would take pictures in the dark. I caught up on January paperwork tonight as well as payed bills and made a to do list for tomorrow in town. Guess we better get stocked back up for another round of winter.
Thoughtfully thanking God tonight for my wonderful family,I couldn't help but feel so proud tonight at dinner looking around at my family, I am so blessed and am very humbly grateful to God for blessing me with them. Good Night and God Bless.

SEASON'S COME AND SEASON'S GO
Thank goodness I woke to liquid rain falling this morning.At about 7:00 I heard a loud noise and realized it was snow sliding off the metal roof.I looked at the temperature and it was 33 degrees,how close is that! I saw no ice on the trees or anything and that is a welcome relief.
After breakfast and exercise I started the laundry and housecleaning chores for today. It continued to mist rain most of the day,a good day for inside housework. Daughter came by for lunch,since there are no students at school today everyone leaves for lunch,she is dog-sitting for the week so I won't get to see much of her. I refilled all the bird feeders this evening and noticed a plastic shield missing from one of the squirrel feeders,I looked all around but couldn't find it,maybe it's under the snow. The mixture I was putting in it has whole peanuts in the shells in it and I noticed before the snow storm that the squirrels where pulling the plastic up and reaching in to pick the peanuts out,I guess they pushed the shield up to far and it fell out of the groove.After a supper of Sunday's leftovers I hit the couch with my aching back from cleaning all the floors.I watched the auditions for American Idol,then the news. I'm glad to hear them down playing the storm that's coming Fr
iday.But who knows if 
that's good or bad??? These photos brought to mind a poem I had heard a long time ago and I looked it up with the words I could remember and found that it is by Andrew Wilkinson,it is a love poem but the first 3 lines just stuck in my head and these pictures fit perfectly.

FEBRUARY BEGINS BEAUTIFULLY
First day of a new month and a day closer to the end of a snowy winter. Schools are closed today and again tomorrow as there is still a lot of ice on the roads and more in the weather predictions for tonight. Slept in a while this morning as I have nothing really to do.After breakfast g-son came and hubbie and I took him outside for a 3rd day of sledding.The sno
w is really slick now as it melts on top. After that he wanted to walk down into "Bikini Bottoms" as he calls our lower pasture,I think he is watching to much Spongebob. We still haven't let the cattle down there yet so the snow was still petty much as it fell and look at that brilliant blue sky again today. We walked over to the creek and down onto a sandbar, g-son spent almost an hour trying to toss 
all the rocks back into the water.It made me think of the story of the young man who came upon thousands of starfish laying on the beach struggling to get back into the water,he was picking them up one at a time and tossing them into the sea. A stranger came along asking him what difference he thought he could possibly make because there were so many of them,he couldn't possibly throw all of them back before it was to late. As the young man tossed another starfish into the water,he looked at the stranger and said "it made a difference to that one!!" I think about that story often when I just don't seem to be making a difference or am getting overwhelmed in what I'm doing.

Snowball throwing is a favorite also,he has a very good arm and as much practice as he is getting he should be a good baseball player as his dad and both of his uncles were good baseball players.
It is hard to believe how fast he is growing up and it is so exciting to see his persona
lity coming out. This has been another beautiful winter day,sunny,bright blue sky and 40 degrees.
He finally and thankfully got thirsty and hungry,we came inside,he ate a pancake while I cooked him a personal pizza. With all that energy he needs a lot of fuel. Just one more picture and I'll get on another subject although it is easy to see what my favorite subject is. That smile and those icy blue eyes will melt a lot of hearts when he gets older,but right now they sure melt mine. This has been a relaxing,fun,just doing whatever day. I did get my Avon orders bagged and my books stamped tonight,that was my purpose for today. I'm thinking I may not be selling Avon much longer,my business is just getting so small it's hardly worth the gas and time I'm putting into it right now,I have until the end of March and I'll decide. Use to I always made over $100 per campaign,now I'm lucky to make 1/2 of that before you deduct gas for delivering. There is a level that you have to maintain to get a set commission,I've always promised myself if I ever lost that set commission I would quit selling and th
at is what I'll know at the end of March. Another beautiful sunset brings this first day of February to a close. I hope the weather predictions for freezing rain and sleet tonight are wrong,everyone needs to get back to work and have a couple normal days before another big snowstorm at the end of the week.
I need to get back on my regular schedule tomorrow morning starting with my exercise tape. I can feel my hips and knees getting stronger after doing these exercises for just a couple weeks.
I'm listening to the news and wondering what in the world those people thought they were doing, to go into Haiti and just take a group of children and try to leave with them. Maybe they did mean to do a good thing,but the way they tried to do it was crazy. When Americans go into other countries and do things like that it cause all our motives to be scrutinized unneccessarily and hinders a lot of good that could be done. It also gives anti-American groups ammunition to drum up support against us.
