FIREWOOD FOR NEXT SEASON, CHECK !!!

Thankfully feeling a little better this morning as I get this Friday started. I got chores done and got RL to pre-school on time.
When I got home I was actually hungry for the first time in several days so I made myself a big breakfast of a couple eggs, grits and bacon with a couple cups of coffee to fuel me for a busy day.
Daughter is sick today so she and IR are at home this morning.
Hubbie and I cleaned house this morning and then left early to make a couple shopping stops on the way to pick RL to get couple things we needed.
RL just wanted to get food and bring it home and call to get IR to come have lunch with her so that is what we did.
Daughter still wasn't feeling that great so she stayed on the couch most of the afternoon and hubbie played with the girls while I baked cakes.
I baked 6 caramel, 2 chocolate, 4 pound and 1 pan of brownies and was just taking the last ones out of the ovens when d-in-love got here to pick up RL.
When RL goes to the bathroom IR always has to go with her and brush her teeth. I caught her antics while she brushed in the mirror !!!!

After they all left hubbie went outside to work on some of the last logs in the pile #1 son dumped from daughter's land clearing last fall.
Over the winter he has turned this log pile.
Into a sawdust pile ……
And into all this firewood for next season.

This was the last of it that he finished today. I smelled this Red Oak as I did chores today and hoped that this sweet scent will remain when we burn this next winter.

I got chores done and then we both watched the news and I got my icing started. I iced cakes and watched some March madness basketball games on TV. We watched UNC defeat Iona to move to the second round of the tournament.
It was late by the time the game was over and I got everything ready for market.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.

1989 SWEET BIRTHDAY AND EASTER MEMORIES

Thankful to feel just a little bit better this morning and have my nose drip slowed .
I got chores done and got ready for market.  I thought about not going to market today but I have one cake order and I really need to sell eggs and I need to get some market banking business done.
I dropped RL off on the way and met hubbie and IR at market.
We got things set up and sales were very slow. I got a call from Connie, IR's other g-ma that she wasn't going to be able to come today. So I went ahead and got the banking for market done and then hubbie and IR left to get his errands done for the day.
I ended up having a pretty decent day with several whole cake sales today so I am very thankful.
I left market and made a stop at Ingles on the way home along with the bank and dropping the bills at the PO.
Hubbie helped me unload then feeling like I needed a rest I hit the couch while hubbie rocked IR to sleep in the recliner.
Daughter came in with a headache also so she layed down on the other couch and all 4 of us had a good rest.
We all got up and ate some supper then I went out and got chores done. Daughter felt better so she and IR went home.
The light rain started again even though half the sky only had some pretty clouds floating around in it.
We ended up with about 2/10ths inch of rain for the evening.Tonight was another quiet night for both hubbie and I as we rested and watched some March madness NCAA tournament games.
I need to get some things done but my energy level is about 0 right now with fighting this cold.
To continue the decade series for March 1989 we had 2 birthdays and Easter to celebrate that year.
First birthday was #2 son's 6th and he celebrated with his cousin's on hubbie's side at a Sunday lunch at hubbie's grandmother's house where we all gathered every Sunday.

Then he got to celebrate with his one cousin , baby Susie , on my side of the family at our house.

Next it was daughter's 4th birthday on the 26th day of the month and this year that day happened to also be Easter Sunday. She had cake and presents at hubbie's granny's on that Sunday.

After her birthday celebration we all headed outside to have our annual Easter egg hunt with all the kids in granny's lawn.

Then she also had another celebration at my mother's house.
A happy little four year old with a big smile stirs so many memories of these happy times in our lives.

Thankful for the blessings of this day.

SICK DAY

Welcome Spring 2019, here's hoping for a really good one !! A photography friend of mine always post a first day of the season pic and this was a beauty this morning as the sun rose in a clear sky.

Woke up this morning feeling really bad and with a dripping nose and watery eyes this was a day I would have really loved to spend in bed.  But not to be with a busy day ahead.
I got chores done and took RL to pre-school. Hubbie got everything else done outside while I was gone so when I got back I grabbed a cup of coffee and a breakfast bar and we headed over to Apple Tree Honda for my 10 am appointment to have a recalled airbag inflator replaced in my Pilot.
Hubbie followed me in his truck as even though we know it is a 45 minute job there is no telling how long this place will take to fix it and I feel too bad to sit around for hours in their waiting room. I stopped bringing my Honda over here for oil changes because they always took over 3 hours even with an appointment.
When I checked in the guy said it says end of the day when you will be picking the car back up and I told him if you can't do it in a more timely manner than that which I didn't agree to when I made the appointment anyway I would have to reschedule. He was a very nice guy and said they would have it done no later than 2:00, well that's 4 hours to get a 45 minute job done ???  But he said he was sure it would be done before that and he would call.
We loaded IR in hubbie's truck and headed over to the discount shoe place we have been needing to go to for me to look for some more Alegria boots like I have that I really like but I was told they don't even make the tall boots anymore.
We went from there over to the Asheville outlet center and were shopping in the first store when I got a call that my car was done. It was about 11:15 so with me feeling like all I wanted to do was sit in the truck and sleep we cut our shopping trip short and picked up the Honda and headed home.
I hit the couch when we got here and that is where I stayed all afternoon until chore time.
I haven't had a head cold kick me down this hard in a long time. Thankful that IR was really good this afternoon and played quietly with hubbie and let me rest.
After daughter picked up IR hubbie went outside and got our garden plowed ,it is supposed to rain again tomorrow so we needed to get it done and the soil was just the right dryness today.

A big "worm moon" was rising in the eastern sky this evening. This is the full moon in March after the spring eqinox and is called the "worm" moon because it is when the earthworms start moving around in the moonlight after staying underground all winter.

I got up to get chores done and then came inside and got the weekly paperwork done and the bills paid then watched Survivor on TV.
I was glad to get a hot bath and get into bed with another dose of Nyquil to help me sleep.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night.

GRAND GIRL ANTICS

Dragging myself out of bed this morning after all the lifting I did yesterday was pretty hard today.
I had a cough and stuffy nose which isn't helping make me feel any better either. I am hoping it is from all the dust we knocked up yesterday.
I got chores done and took RL to pre-school. I always hold my breath wondering how she will act on the first day back after a long weekend but today she was fine and went in pretending to be a cat !!
I came home and had breakfast with IR while hubbie went outside and got all the dogs situated. I will be glad when daughter is ready to take her dog home so we can turn Rosie out around the farm and it will certainly be less work.
This morning while hubbie stayed upstairs with IR since it is cold this morning and the basement is chilly after the 24 degree morning I worked some more getting another pile of trash and donations together before it was time to go pick up RL.
After picking up RL we stopped at Burger King for lunch for the girls. This is a perfect example of how different these girls are.

And this pic shows how much they love each other . Love that IR is reading the book to RL and I love the smile of RL's face as she listens.

When daughter came in we went downstairs to look through some of daughter's old college things I found this morning leaving hubbie and the girls upstairs watching TV.
When we came back up this is what we found. Hubbie was asleep also but opened his eyes when we took the pic.

Daughter took IR home asleep so she could get some laundry done.
G-son had a track meet today but didn't get to participate because of missing practice last Thursday  when he had OSS so he was raking the sand in the pits today.

Hubbie and I had to get some net up over the Silkie lot and get them moved today because the big red rooster won't stay out of their lot and he is really beating up on the smaller Silkie roos.
We left RL asleep in the recliner and headed up to get that done until #1 son could get here to pick her up.
Hubbie and I also moved the nice big dog house that #2 son built out from under where we think the big pine tree is going to fall. A man from the power company came by to look at it yesterday and said they  couldn't cut it because it was out of their right of way but that if we wanted to hire someone else to cut it they would come and take the wires down. Right now we don't have the money to pay to have it taken down by a tree company so we are preparing for it to fall on it's own and Duke will just have to replace the pole, transformer and all when it does we just pray it doesn't set anything on fire.
We got inside tonight after 8:00 when everything was done.
Another night of aching feet and legs from being on them all day and looking forward to an early bedtime after a good long hot soak in the tub.
Thankful for all the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night

BASEMENT CLEAN UP and 1949 DECADE PICS

Got to sleep in a while this Monday morning as there is no school today and it is an annual leave day for all staff.
After chores I grabbed a breakfast bar and headed out to my dermatology appointment for my annual exam.
I had a couple of suspect spots that he cut off to send away but he didn't think they were anything to worry about. I sure hope he is right !!
I really like this doctor and the way his office operates, my appointment was at 10:00 , I arrived about 5 minutes early, the office is about 10 minutes from my house and I was done and home by 10:40.
Hubbie was working in his wood pile and I gathered our weekly laundry and got a load started.
Daughter came in after she did her grocery shopping.
This was the day we had picked to work downstairs and we went down and got started cleaning things out and getting some things out to sell. We made several piles, one for trash, one for Goodwill, one to go to the storage shed, one for the remaining things daughter wanted, and one to stay in the basement.
IR played for a while then we all got hungry and came upstairs to have lunch. I had forgotten I had only had the bar for breakfast so I was ready to get some lunch.
After we ate hubbie stayed upstairs with IR while daughter and I went back to work downstairs.
We really got a lot done and even advertised and sold an old dining room set I had tried to sell before .  D-in-love and RL came to help after dropping g-son off at wrestling club practice. During this practice he gets to practice wrestling plus he gets to help mentor some of the younger wrestler hopefuls. He is on the far left in the purple shirt helping the younger boys roll up the mat in this pic.

Thankful she brought food and drinks for everyone. IR woke up about the same time and enjoyed the food with RL in picnic style and then they got suckers for dessert.
We worked until daughter had to leave to go to school for her gate duty at the soccer game this evening.
#1 son came in just in time to ride with hubbie over to daughter's to meet the contractor she was getting an estimate from on a back deck.
D-in-love worked on the computer and I played with the girls until they all got back.
#1 son helped hubbie carry out some of the heavy things that need to come out of the basement and then hubbie and daughter hauled a load over to her house and I stayed here and got the chores done.
When hubbie got home we made some last trips of the day hauling things to the storage shed and loaded the truck with things to go to the dump and Goodwill so he can make a trip tomorrow morning.
It sure felt good to get inside and have a light supper and then put my feet up for a while and catch up on my blog . I got out some decade pics for the month and the earliest pics for March were in 1949 ,the first is my uncle Anderson Holmes holding a gun with his dog looking up , the second is of some folks who were routinely in the old pics my aunt took but I never knew who they were, luckily their names were on the back of the photos.

Thankful for the blessings of this day and the health that allows us to work like we did today.
God Bless and Good Night

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY

This is my church St Patrick's Day more toned down green.
After church we came home to the corned beef brisket that had been cooking in the crock pot overnight along with boiled cabbage , baked potatoes, green beans and corn bread.
We only had #1 son's family here for lunch as everyone else is either sick or out of town this weekend.
After they left hubbie and I tackled some rain delayed task around the farm. We are so far behind in things because of all the rain when we get a rain free day even if it is a Sunday we feel like we have to get some things done.
One of the ladies at church this morning said this is the first no rain weekend in 20 weeks.
Hubbie cut some small Walnut trees off the bank below my sewing shop and I tackled cleaning out my chicken houses. This job is way behind and the depth of the manure in the houses definitely showed it.
This looks much better.
I got all the houses cleaned out except the Silkie house and I moved the rooster and 2 older hens into the new little tractor that have been staying in it and will get it cleaned up tomorrow and move the Silkies back into it with new netting over the lot. They don't like the green house were they have been all winter and don't go out into the lot that is attached to it for some reason.
This is the latest year since I have had them that none of them have went broody and I think it is because they don't like the nesting situation in the green house.
Hubbie came up when he finished cutting the trees and we spread all the chicken manure from the houses out on the garden.
We are waiting for Duke Power to come and look at the leaning pine tree before we plow the garden in case they need to get trucks into the garden area.
We are hoping they come look at it this week.
As I stood under the tall pine trees behind the garden I felt very small looking up through the branches.
The ice storm this past winter really did a number on lots of the limbs on these trees.
We came inside after chores and relaxed. Ben and Kristen came by to pick up their dog on their way home from visiting Ben's brother this weekend.
Thankful for  the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night

SLOW MARKET SATURDAY

An extra hour of sleep felt really good this morning after our late night. We got chores done and got loaded for market.
It feels more like winter this morning at 33 degrees but at least the sun is shining.
I am counting on some St. Patrick's day leprechaun luck today for my sales.

Market was slow all day and very few customers came through. I am thankful for all I did sell as always.
I stopped at Aldi on the way home and picked up baking supplies and groceries.
Hubbie helped me unload and get things put away before he went back to cutting up the logs of firewood.
I rested for a bit and watched the 2A girls high school state championship game between Mountain Heritage high school the western champs and Farmville the eastern champ. Mountain Heritage won the game for the first state championship in any sport for their school.  When my kids were in high school we were in the same conference with Mountain Heritage.
Another beautiful sunset to end this day.

We got chores done and then settled in to watch the finals of the ACC tournament between Duke and Florida State. I don't like either of these schools so it'll be an easy game to watch.
Duke won the game and are this years ACC tournament champions.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night.
