HERE COMES ELSA !!

Up to get this day started with chores. I grabbed a cup of coffee and breakfast bar to go so we could get over to daughter's to pick up IR and CA to take them with us to the dump / recycle center and the feed store to restock of chicken feed.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy day so we decided to get these 2 errands done today. But first I had to drop off a cake to a lady on the way.  The girls sang and were happy all the way so that was good.  We made it back home just in time to pick up lunch on the way.  Daughter had an appointment at noon today so we brought the girls here to have lunch then CA went down for nap. When daughter got here she stayed inside with napping CA while IR went with us to unload the feed out of the truck. Thankfully I discovered the red hen that has been setting on eggs since we were gone on vacation under the little lean-two behind the dog lot had started hatching some chicks so we had to secure the chicks inside there.  We put some food and water inside the lean-two and blocked off anyway for the chicks to get into the dog lot of outside until she can get all of them hatched and then I will move her and her chicks up to a brooder box.  I didn't know what day she started setting so I have been reaching down and rubbing her back each day and today when I did that and she chuckled I heard a little peep so I knew a at least one chick was hatching. I have no idea how many eggs are under her because I have never caught her off the nest.

CA was still napping so daughter went home to get some baking done and sat with her and watched the little wren that has a nest in the gourd on the front porch work all afternoon carrying bugs and worms to her hungry babies.  CA woke up and hubbie took her home.  We had some fresh garden supper of newly dug potatoes, fried squash and sliced cucumbers.  After we ate we headed for the garden again to gather whatever was ready before the rain comes. Unfortunately as we gathered more ready cucumbers we found these dreaded "squash beetles" on them.

These little buggers for some reason don't bother our squash but last year they totally decimated our cucumber vines leaving us with only a few days of fruit from the vines. Thankfully we managed to pick off a dish full of them this evening . Alot of the beetles were mating so hopefully we got a jump on them this year. These beetles suck all the moisture from the vines and inject a toxin into the plant which causes it to wither and die quickly. They resemble stink bugs and also emit an order when you touch them.

We got chores done just in time before the rain from tropical storm Elsa reached out area.

Elsa made landfall this morning in Florida and is headed up through the southern states and will bring us a rainy night and tomorrow.

We relaxed for the evening and got an early bedtime.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night
