GOOD BYE JUNE 2018

The alarm sounded very far away when it went off this morning and it took me a long time to realize it was Saturday morning and market day.
We got chores done and got ready for market.
We got there on time and market was already bustling with business. We had a very good selling day today and market stayed full of customers the entire day.
Daughter was busy at the manager's office so hubbie took care of IR most of the day.
We left late as customers were still shopping after closing time today.
I made stops at Ingles and Aldi to pick up groceries and baking supplies. It was really hot today and after being in the heat inside market by the time I got home I was pretty wiped out.
Hubbie was mowing the lawn and stopped to help me unload when I got here.
He continued with his mowing and I came in the cool house and had a cup of the vegetable soup I brought home from market.
RL wanted to come back up here and play with the chickens again today so d-in-love brought her up.

She loves these chickens and they seem to have a fondness for her also as this little one just follows her around like a puppy.
Her dad has been busy today building her a chicken coop so she can have 6 of the Silkie chicks in the big brooder box and maybe this littlest lover chick she has fallen in love with. She looks like she was helping get the job done !!!
After they left I did chores then watched the sunset as I reflected back over this month.
This month has surely been crammed full of events starting with our resurrected Old Timey Day at the Curb market on the first Saturday of the month.
G-son graduated from elementary school and is headed for middle school next school year.
We celebrated 4 family birthdays this month including grand daughter IR who turned 1 year old on the 20th.
Hubbie celebrated his 63rd birthday as well as a good Father's Day. Tif and Aa also got a year older.
We went to the Pickens flea market this month in the heat and had some fun trips with the kids including Carl Sandburg's goat farm, the parks and the pool.
Daughter is managing market this summer until we find a full time manager so that makes more IR time for hubbie and I. We keep her here on Tuesdays while daughter works at market and then hubbie stays all days at market on Thursdays and Saturdays and helps with her there.
We keep g-son and g-daughter RL regularly every Monday and some other special times to help d-in-love out.
Hubbie and I both had eye exams and got new glasses this month and Tif got a new car after selling the boat she bought last June.
We have had some devastating flooding from heavy rains at times in the month and it has been the 2nd hottest June on record with only about 3 days average or below for the high temps.
Market has been very busy thankfully to begin this summer and daughter has been picking blackberries for a couple weeks between the rain and storms.
G-son went to a 4 day church camp at Ridgecrest and had a wonderful time with his church friends just getting home this morning.
We had a major power outage this past Thursday that last over 12 hours when a high voltage pole caught on fire and fell. Thankfully the day was cloudy and it stayed pretty cool and our food in the freezers and frig were okay.
Thankful for the love and protection of the family during this busy month and thankful for all the blessings that flowed freely throughout the month.
God Bless and Good Night

PICTURES, CHICKS and 2008 POOL FUN

Another busy Friday on tap as I get out to get chores done and have breakfast.
Daughter came by early to get some one year old pictures of IR made with my big camera.
They really turned out great.  Funny thing my game camera was still running pointed at this very area and I forgot about it until the photo session was over so the pics with dates at the bottom were snapped by the game camera !!!

Two photo bombers captures by the game camera... Meow Meow the cat and Abagail the chicken !!!!

Peace restored ………….
She left her here and took Addy, her niece with her to pick blackberries this morning before the heat gets any worse. Picture taking sure is tiring work apparently !!!
I got my baking started. I baked 12 caramel, 1 chocolate, 4 pound cakes, 1 lemon layer, 1 pan of brownies and some muffins and a special cake to donate for a basket give away for the holiday tomorrow at market.
Daughter came back to pick up IR and they all headed to the pool to cool off.
Hubbie went to get a haircut and then worked in the garden.
I finished baking about 3:30 so I was pooped but I didn't want to sit down and go to sleep so I went up and cleaned out chick boxes from the spring hatches I had moved out of them and I got 2 of the big hens houses cleaned out before g-daughter and RL and her mom and dad came up to visit.
RL found a new love in this little chick that Re brought over here last night.
She loves watermelon but she loves that chick more because she asked hubbie to just feed her because the chick didn't want her to stop holding it.
I disturbed this nest that was in a bucket I moved during my clean out activities today and I hope the mama bird comes back to it.
After they left I finished the evening icing cakes and getting ready for market.
To continue the decade pics for this month with June was g-son at the age of  20 months old with aunt T watching over him.

I am soooo tired tonight and fell into bed about 1am for a short sleep until market time tomorrow.
Thankful for the blessings of this day and for the wonderful everlasting love of Jesus Christ.
God Bless and Good Night

POWER OUTAGE AND 1998 JUNE BASEBALL

Today started very very early and very very badly !!!!
About 3am hubbie woke me up and said see what all the pings on your phone say because our power is out.
In the darkness and trying to focus from being waken out of a peaceful sleep I finally saw that all the pings were indeed from Duke Energy saying there was a power outage in our area but they expected to have it fixed by 7am.
I have notifications from our power company set up on my phone because of all the power problems we have living where we do.
I tried to get back to sleep but it took a long time to ever get the questions about what happened and where the power problem was out of my mind.
Once again at 6am I was awakened by the pinging sound of my phone and when I looked at it this time it said the time for our power to come back on was changed to  8pm tonight !!!
Now I surely couldn't go back to sleep thinking about all the food in my freezers .
Hubbie was having the same sleepless night so finally at 7am we both decided we would get up and get ready in the dark and get to market where there was power.
Daughter called and said she didn't have any power either and she lives on the edge of town. #1 son who was out of power also called and said he had to drive almost all the way into town to find a place with power to get a cup of coffee on his way to work. He said Howard Gap road was closed and he could see a power pole across the road.
Thankful for the info so we knew to take back roads to town as our regular route is Howard Gap road.
It wasn't much fun getting ready to go anywhere without lights or water but we did it and headed to market.
Daughter and IR were already there and after we got set up hubbie went out to get us some breakfast.
Each time one of these power outages happen I'm always amazed at how dependent we are on the power grid .
And it is amazing how much appreciated a flushing toilet and running water are !!!
Business was slow at first at market especially since we were there shortly after 8am but we ended up having a good day . I had a total of 9 cakes on order so that was a good days sales  before I got there but I sold very well off the table as well.
All our neighbors were out of power as well as us and we kept trying to find out exactly what happen but all we managed to find out was that a pole fell that had a bunch of high voltage lines on it and the entire mass of wires and pole caught on fire . Found no info on why the pole fell.
Hubbie stayed at market and helped with IR all day until about 1:30 when we decided he should go on as he had several stops to make including a stop at the eye doctor to pick up his new glasses along with the routine stops. I had to go to the bank and PO so we would meet at home and check our freezers in case we needed to hook up the generator and run them awhile.
I have cups of ice with quarters setting on top of the ice to check the amount of thawing things do in all the freezers.
Thankfully the ice was still in tact in the cups and in only one freezer on top of the extra frig in the basement the things were even getting soft.
We got the Honda unloaded and then decided to make a trip to Walmart to get my baking supplies for tomorrow since we couldn't do anything else.
Thankfully it was cloudy and rainy all morning leaving only 3/10ths inch in the gauge but keeping it cool so that our house was still amazingly cool even without the air conditioning.
Just as we were heading out the door the power came back on at 3:30.
We went ahead and made our trip to Walmart where all the cooling counters were emptied out with signs on them that there was a power outage. I guess they must have coolers in the back that have generators to keep them cool.
Although I won't be buying any cool stuff or meat from any of the stores that were affected by this outage for awhile just to be on the safe side.
We got back home and things were back to normal thankfully.
We watched the news and had a snack supper then got chores done.
Daughter called and said half her apartment still didn't have any power so son-in-love came after extension cords . He said they called maintenance and the recording said they were working on the problem but had no idea when it would be fixed. Thankfully the air conditioning and all the kitchen and hot water were in the half that is working.
Re brought a lone little chick over here tonight to put in the box with my Silkie chicks to get bigger before she puts it in with her hens. She had given a friend a dozen eggs to hatch in their incubator and only this one egg hatched.
G-son is having a wonderful time at church camp.

Since picture taking was not a priority for me today this is a good time to get June 1998 decade pics on here. Back in that year we were traveling with #2 son and his all star baseball team. This year if my memory serves me correctly these game were played in Red Cross ,NC.
#2 son hitting a homerun...…

On base after another hit.
Walking to his shortstop field position.
Game winning celebration.
These were fun busy summers and we made some really great memories traveling with this group of boys and their families.
Thankful for the blessings of this day and humbled by the reminder of what a blessed life we live.
God Bless and Good Night

BUSY WEDNESDAY AND 1988 JUNE MEMORIES

Got to sleep in a little this morning with no kids coming until later today.
The phone rang just as we got up with a neighbor saying she thought some of Aa's cattle were out in her yard.
Hubbie called Aa and then went to help get them back in the pasture. Before they could get to them the cattle crossed the road and were on our side so they put them in our pasture.
I had to make a run to Ingles to get more eggs before I started baking.
I baked 12 caramel, 8 pound cakes and 4 chocolate before stopping to have a late lunch.
Daughter took IR for her 1 year check-up this morning and got the A-Okay for her. She is growing like a weed and right on schedule or ahead in most things, she even has 2 molars coming through her gums and hasn't shown any signs of teething problems.
Daughter had a teachers meeting to attend from 1 to 3 this afternoon and basketball open gym after that until 5:30 so she brought IR here to stay for the afternoon.
The rain started early today about 1:00 and lightly fell all afternoon with some loud thunder close by but no storms hit us directly thankfully.
I did some ironing and caught up some small task while being quiet so IR and hubbie could nap.
G-son is having fun at camp as these pictures capture some of their activities.

I need to get the decade pics for past June's on here so tonight will be the longest one with June 1988 being a busy month . Starting with kindergarten graduation for #1 son. He was in class with his cousin and best friend Adam.
Mrs. Hamilton was their teacher and they had a great year.
Mrs. Freeman a local neighbor was the assistant and they also loved her.
We made a beach trip to celebrate the end of the school year that year.

My oldest brother and his first wife were at the same beach we were this beach trip.
I had a solid wooden table made to match my kitchen cabinets and we got it that month.
This is the back of our house back then.
Thankful for the blessings of this day and as always for the wonderful memories these old pictures bring to life .
God Bless and Good Night
