Out to get the morning chores and dodge falling debris I got totally soaked even though I had my rain gear on. I need to get a longer rain coat !! I emptied 2.1 inchs of rain from the gauge this morning.
The chickens and guineas all looked at me with contempt as I opened the doors of their dry houses.
The guineas do not like rain at all and refused to even come off their roosting pole.
There were several limbs down but thankfully not on anything major.
We decided we wouldn't venture out on the roads to go to church since the authorities were asking folks to stay home because of falling trees and downed power lines on many roads in our area.
We fixed lunch for everyone instead. D-in-love was the only one that went to church because she had to play music. They didn't have any Sunday school and there is no church services tonight.
We cooked BBQ pork chops in the crockpot, corn and the cob , boiled potatoes and biscuits. Re brought over a crockpot full of green beans to go with it.
#1 son's family, Aa's family and daughter and IR made it to lunch.
These 4 amigos are always grateful for their time together these days.
Everyone had an extended visit today and the kids really enjoyed playing together.
After everyone left hubbie and I cleaned up and then relaxed watching the flood waters rise.
The head waters of Clear Creek are located on Bearwallow Mountain and that area has received twice the amount of rain that we have here so the flooding is bad.
This is farther up on the lawn under the fence than I have ever seen the water before.
We live in what is call the Blue Ridge Escarpment which is a distinct line where the mountains turn into foothills.
This area typically protects us from storms that move in from the west by acting like a shelter but in this case when a rare eastern storm system comes along we typically are in the bullseye for more precipitation because our area becomes a catch basin for the rain when it hits the mountains. We are praying this prediction map doesn't come true with 15 inch totals of rain.
When we went out to get the evening chores done I dumped another 1.9 inches of rain from the gauge and it has continued to rain all evening.
The yard is strewn with debris and this large limb poked a hole in the netting over the guinea pen but thankfully that is all we found and the winds have died down a lot this evening.
As I stood and looked out over the flooded fields and watched cars drive by I couldn't help but remember the way floods like this used to cover this road and create all kinds of trouble when drivers would come around the curves and run into the flood waters. This new road has really worked at keeping the flood waters from creating any problems so far.
Thankful for the protective arms of Jesus Christ as we weather this storm and praying that He grants grace in the coming days for all those affected.
God Bless and Good Night
