A DIFFERENT APPLE FESTIVAL SATURDAY

Saturday morning and we are up to get chores done and have breakfast on this busy catch up day. As soon as we finished eating hubbie went out to get on the tractor and get the pastures bush hogged hopefully for the last time this year.                                                                                                              I got all the apple peels and cores that daughter saved from her bushel of Wolf River apples last week out of the downstairs refrigerator and began the apple jelly making process.  I actually had rather make jelly from just the peels and cores because to me that is more flavorful.

I had enough peels to make 2 runs of jelly and it was very delicious.
A total of 27 half pints and a half to enjoy on tomorrow's biscuits.                                                               That's pretty good bounty from just one bushel of apples, daughter canned 25 half pint jars of apple butter and 12 pints of applesauce in addition to my jelly bounty.                                                                 It was time to make a couple cake deliveries by the time I finished the last canner full so I headed out on the very busy roads . I ran into a traffic jam but thankfully wasn't late to the delivery since I has started early expecting the heavier traffic of this Labor day weekend. Usually the apple festival is downtown on Main street each year over Labor day weekend but with the covid virus raging this year they decided to not have the street festival and let each apple farm host the event. That put lots of traffic out our way because we live in the heart of apple orchard country. I won't be back out on the roads and I do hope that the apple farmers can make up the lost income from the street festival on their own farms.   IR did her part as she got Asian Pears and apple pies from some friends farm.  You can tell be her eyes which was her favorite !!!

Normally this is one of my least favorite days of the year as I go to market fighting the heavy traffic to get a parking space in market's parking lot and then deal with the crowd of folks going uptown to the street festival then struggle to weave through the crowd and traffic to get home and market sales are usually slow today because folks are in town for the street festival not to come to market.  It has been so nice today to stay here and even though I've been very busy it was so peaceful and quiet.

Hubbie and I worked in the garden clearing some spent tomato vines and picked green beans and dug potatoes for tomorrow's lunch.
It was nice to feel the change in the air this evening as a cool breeze blew in cooler temps for the overnight and early morning.                                                                                                                         Hubbie and I both are tired tonight and got an early bedtime in the nice cool temps.

Thankful for the blessings of this day.

God Bless and Good Night
