SLOW TRIP HOME

Hubbie and I got up a little earlier this morning and quietly packed the rest of our things while g-son slept on the couch.
We had our breakfast while he was waking up and then he helped hubbie carry everything to the Honda. We have to be out of the cabin by 10am.
By the time they had things loaded they were both dripping with sweat as the air is very moisture laden this morning and there isn't a trace of that ocean breeze at all this morning.
The heat, already near 90 is almost impossible to be outside in.
We made short visits with everyone and then decided to head on up the road and get out of the heat.
Unfortunately we didn't check the road conditions and soon found ourselves stopped in bumper to bumper traffic even before we got to Orangeburg,SC.
We looked it up on my phone then and discovered there was road work many miles ahead of us that had traffic backed up for many miles and we were not near any exits so we settled in for a long ride .
Finally almost 2 hours later we made it to the construction area and got through it. We got off at the next exit and discovered all the gas stations near the interstate were out of gas so we drove into the country a little ways to find gas and also stopped at Wendys for lunch.
We got back on the interstate and found traffic once again at a crawl and no signs of anything causing this slow down.
It was a very stressful drive all the way with traffic going from intermittent stops to 70-80 mph. I told hubbie I could easily understand how multi car pile ups happen on these roads because it only takes one driver not paying close attention to cause them when traffic is running like this.
We finally got home at 4:00 more than 2 hours past what it should have been, whew.
I don't think either of us have ever been so thankful to pull into our driveway.
We unloaded and got everything put away then went outside to check things. The rain gauge had a little over 1/2 inch in it.
#2 son called to make sure he didn't need to come take care of things before he headed home.
He always does a very thorough job taking care of things here while we are gone.
#1 son called and he said it had started raining in Charleston this afternoon off and on and at least had cooled it down a little.
Hubbie and I got chores done in a light shower and then settled in for a restful evening and an early bedtime. I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed for sure tonight.
Looks like all the kids had a good day despite the rain and heat.

Thankful for traveling mercies today and all the other blessings God sent my way today.
God Bless and Good Night
