"TATER" DIGGING TIME

G-son coming in around 7 am woke us up this morning. While hubbie took him to pre-K I did morning chores. It is another beautiful warm sunny morning. After chores and breakfast I put in an Avon order while hubbie cleaned weeds off our potato patch.
Today is potato digging day. We worked until it was time to pick up g-son.
After a stop at Sam's Club and Walmart we came home and g-son opted to stay inside while we finished the potatoes. He looks tired from his big night last night.
It is 81 degrees and I changed into shorts and a tank top for the job of digging. We are going to go from summer to winter by Wednesday this week.

We had a pretty good crop of potatoes this year even with the dry weather. We only planted 25 lbs of seed potatoes and we've been eating on these for quite a while, almost 1/2 of a row so we felt good about the yield this year.
Hubbie and I both love sweet potatoes and decided to experiment with a few plants to see what we would get in our climate and soil type. Most of the sweet potatoes around here are grown in the piedmont section but we decided to try anyway.
I think we planted 18 plants and this is our crop plus a couple acorn squash.
We got several very nice sized ones but most were long and skinny or all knotted up like this bunch.Still all attached to the vine.
I pulled them apart and had some nice size potatoes but it sure would have been better if they all had room to spread out.
I think I need to do more research before trying this again. But you never know until you try !!Annie was worn out after the job was done !!

After getting the potatoes stored for the time being until it gets colder in Hubbie's shop we got cleaned up and hubbie headed over to daughter's to paint while I stayed with g-son.We spent the afternoon swinging and riding bikes.

And resting as I don't feel very good. I think the chicken sandwich I had for lunch at Sam's Club almost made me really sick. I've felt really yucky ever since I ate it.
After a bowl of chicken soup for supper I felt better thankfully as I've got a lot of cakes to bake tonight.
#1 son came and picked g-son up and I did the evening chores. Hubbie came in just before dark. After I took a short rest I baked 60 layers and a pound cake tonight.
I ran out of sugar or I would have made more.
My back is hurting from all the digging of the morning and I'm off to soak in a hot bath for a while. It is midnight and I just took the last cakes out of the oven.
Grateful to God tonight for the blessings of the day.
Good Night and God Bless.
