NEAR FLOODING, PILEATED WOODPECKER FAMILY

After getting woken up several times in the early morning hours by pounding rain I  got up tired today.
My throat is scratchy and I have an intermitant runny nose which isn't helping the situation any.
After sloshing through chores and dumping 3 inches of rain from the gauge I heard the creek roaring as it ran bank full and pushed some of its muddy water into the lower pastures.

Bernie and Dolly had to go to the vet for heart worm test this morning, I feel sorry for them as they both tremble the whole time. Both test were negative and after picking up 6 month supplies for both of them I brought them home before picking up g-son.
After lunch he and hubbie potted some ivy for transplanting to daughter's. I walked around checking out my new bloomers today.
These Stella Dora day lilies are starting to bloom after all the rains.

And this is the first Magnolia blossom of the year. I need to get some Hollytone to feed this tree, with all the rain it is not looking good as all the nutrients are washing away.
This old fashioned apple tree in the pasture is just now in full bloom.

The clouds moved back in this evening but the storms passed by to the north of us ,thankfully as the bottoms are still standing full of water.

After g-son left for swimming lessons I delivered a cake and picked up some things at Ingles on the way home.
Hubbie went to visit an elderly neighbor who just had a knee replacement.
When he returned he went over to help #1 son put together a storage shed.
I went over after a call from hubbie about a nest of Pileated Woodpeckers.
This was a special treat to watch these large birds caring for the large babies.
If you enlarge the photo you can she her feeding 2 babies.
After she flew away these two cuties wanted more and left it be known by their loud hissing sounds.
After thinking there were only 2 babies I was surprised when she came back with more food and another head appeared.
I stood with g-son and watched these guys for almost an hour until it got to dark to take pictures.
After chores and a light supper ( I have lost my appetite anyway) I washed eggs and got them ready for daughter to pick up to sell at school where she works.
As I straightened my desk I looked at the cards I got yesterday for Mother's Day and chuckled to myself  to think that my kids sure know me well. My love for birds and butterflies and wildflowers show in the cards they choose.
And this envelope is most special as g-son learns to write all his letters !!

Although the card says Grandma, to him I am Neena !
Thankful tonight for the blessings of the day and for the wonderful beauty and wonder of His creations.
Good Night and God Bless.

Hi Marilyn, Great set of cards... I love the one that your grandson wrote on. He's really growing up!!!!

We got about 3 inches of rain also--and now I'm ready for some sunshine and warmer temps.

Great pictures of the Pileated Woodpeckers...

Hugs,
Betsy

What a treat...a nest. I've never found one but do enjoy watching this shy bird.

Rain??? Boy, do we need some of that. Dry as a bone.
