FINDING TREASURES ON A DREARY DAY

A ringing telephone woke me before the alarm went off this morning. G-son on the other end announcing he was on his way. I forgot that #1 son told me yesterday that he went on winter hours now and would be bringing him earlier.
After getting him settled in with his breakfast I took my time getting ready for the day in the darkness of the morning.
After dropping him at school I got chores done and had a regular Tuesday morning of laundry and housework.
Just after lunch got a call from #1 son telling me I didn't need to pick up g-son today as he had gotten sick at school when his other g-ma went to have lunch with him. She had taken him home to check his fever to see if he needed to go to the doctor.
I called later  to check on him and he seemed fine, maybe just a "need to leave school" tummy ache.
I spent some time this afternoon transfering September photos to a website to preserve them in case of a computer crash.
I also spent some time at the sewing machine catching up all the things I have cut out.
I finally got this other "curtain" apron sewed up. I sold the first one I made several weeks ago. This is made from the tiers of a set of kitchen curtains I bought and only needed the valance for my window.
I also finished these 3 baby bonnets.
Now I will need to do some more cutting before I have anything else to sew.
As I went out the front door to go on my evening walk I noticed these "morning" Glories have become "evening" Glories lately on these dreary cloudy cool days.
There was a few spots of clear sky that managed to show through the dense clouds this evening just before sunset.

I passed Rebekah going to check the cattle in the bottom on my way back up. She was carrying little Evy who was happily grinning as she loves the outside.
It's nice to have a day with nothing planned once in awhile. I  decided to go through some books and use the long old wooden tool box from the estate sale several weeks ago to display them in.

I also discovered four really old books that are copyrighted  in the late 1800's.

The 2 larger books are volumes describing the 1893 World's Fair, the Columbian Exposition.
The dark gray books are 2 volumes of the works of John Lothrop Motley . Volume 11 is his personal account of the Civil War starting July 1, 1861.
Although pretty valueless according to the internet I still love these old volumes and the stories they tell. And for me it is hard to believe the printing and make-up of these books that was in use in the 1800's. Love the ragged edges of the thick heavy pages.

Had a relaxing evening and headed for an earlier bedtime to make up for the earlier wake-up calls.
Grateful to God for His love for His children each day.
Good Night and God Bless.

Sounds like you had a nice day today.. It's nice not to have any specific schedule to follow occasionally, isn't it?

We went to the Smokies and the Blue Ridge Parkway yesterday to see the colors. They were gorgeous---at peak in the higher elevations...

Nice birthday present for your grandson. Hard to believe he's almost 7.

Hugs,
Betsy

Carolina Nana,

A nice evening for a walk, love the picture of the sun setting.

What a beautiful apron, and bonnets :-)

How I remember the early mornings getting up with school kids to get them to school before the sun would rise. Fall is in the air, soon it will be winter.

What a nice day you had. I love the aprons and baby bonnets. It's been raining here for the last couple of days which makes for a very dreary day. Blessings
