GOOD BYE MAY AND 1990 MAY PICS

Had a pretty sleepless night last night as we were late getting to bed because the temperature inside the chick brooder box dropped suddenly and we made several trips to the green house to see if we could fix the problem.  Finally after midnight we got it stabilized but on the low side.
Then at 4:00 I heard hubbie going out the door to check on them and I got so awake I couldn't get back to sleep.
I dragged through morning chores and checked the chicks several times before we had to finally move them outside once again because the sun hitting the greenhouse warmed it up quickly.
The one bright spot this morning was tie new mama and her 6 lovely chicks who seem to be getting lessons on life this morning.

Daughter dropped IR and CA off early this morning so she and son-in-love could work on staining their back deck. Not a usual Sunday activity but with all the rain we've had lately and son-in-love back at work full time and daughter busy with graduation at the high school she works at today was the day to get it done.
IR helped me get lunch ready. We had cooked a whole chicken in the crockpot over night and I took it out and pulled it all apart then added Jasmine rice and chicken broth and let it continue to cook.
We also had fresh corn on the cob and canned green beans with toasted sour dough from daughter.
Everyone but Aa's family made it to lunch today. Aa was moving some cattle around when they got out so they spent their lunchtime chasing cattle and fixing fence.
Daughter and son-in-love left right after lunch to go work more on their deck leaving the girls here with us.
RL and IR played outside for awhile so CA could get a good nap.
#1 son's family to go see d-in-love's mom and I played with IR while hubbie stayed inside with CA.
Daughter came after the girls about 4:15 because they ran out of stain and had to stop.
After they left hubbie and I headed for the garden. Just like everyone else we are so far behind our outside things because of all the rain we'd rather not do this on Sunday but when the ox is in the ditch you have to get it out Sunday or not.
We got replacement plants in where some of the pepper and tomato plants drowned in all the rain and I replanted the cucumbers for the 3rd time and the okra for the 2nd time.
Hoping the weather will be a little more forgiving this time around. Hubbie also got cages on some of the bigger tomatoes.
A couple of the male guineas were chasing each other around in the garden this morning so he wanted to get the cages up so maybe they won't run over the plants and break them.
We got chores done and then #1 son's family came by for left overs and helped us move the chick brooder box to the basement. RL had to ride along to make sure the chicks weren't afraid of the movement.

We got them successfully moved into the basement and this will be much easier to regulate the temperature in their box.
Inside at night and outside during the day is my plan, we'll see how that works out.
This day which is the last day of May has really snuck up on me this month and I need to get the last of the decade pics on here.
Back in May of 1990 daughter had broken a bone in the back of her hand when she fell off #2 son's back and she had a cast. We had a beach trip planned so we went on and tried our best to keep her cast dry. Hurricane  Hugo had ravaged the east coast in September of 1989 and the cleanup was still going on as well as evidence of damage everywhere when we got to Garden City beach in May of 1990.

Fun times with these three !!!
This year's month of May has been quite different than any other in my lifetime as the country starts to re-open from the shut down because of the Covid -19 pandemic. Unfortunately the virus spread continues to grow and we are still pretty much staying at home in quarantine mode. These are some charts that show the rising case count in the world as well as the country and our state.

Our county is also one of the higher case counts in the western part of the state.
This months weather has been cooler than normal and after a dry first part we finished with some record rainfall totals around here and another good news record for tornadoes.

We are so very very thankful that we can end the month healthy and we know our prayers are heard by our wonderful Savior Jesus Christ.
God Bless and Good Night

CELEBRATING CA's FIRST BIRTHDAY

It was so good to see this sunshine through the window this morning.
Hubbie got out first and checked the chicks and came back in saying the thermometer said 108 inside their box, oh my !!
He unplugged the light bulb and I went up and removed the slanted plastic from their window and checked on them. They seemed to be fine and were moving around eating and acting normal with the temp now in the mid 90's.
During chores I heard loud peeping from another brooder box and was surprised to see these 4 chicks out on the feed tray alone and the hen was back on the remaining unhatched eggs.

I put the chicks back under her in the nest.

Next just as I was finishing up feeding I heard a commotion in the Silkie lot and saw that the big Auracana rooster from the back lot had flown over into the silkie lot. Why ???? !!!!
I had to net him to get him out of there. By the time I got back inside to have breakfast I was sweating.
Hubbie went out to get some task done that the rain had been causing him to put off.
I wrapped CA's present and got some little weiners in the crockpot with grape jelly and BBQ sauce over them for the party.
As i kept checking on the new chicks in the green house the temp started rising again and I got hubbie to help me set the brooder box outside under a shade tree with the temperature in the lower 80's they will be fine for the hottest part of the day.
We headed over to daughter's at about 1:45 to celebrate CA's first birthday.

This photo banner was interesting to look at how much sweet CA has changed and overcome.
She wasn't exactly sure what to do with this little cake that seemed to be all hers and finally did make a pretty good mess.

RL and IR tried to show her what to do with the icing.

The kids all helped her open her presents and everyone had a great time.

This is the quilt I made for her.

We were the last ones to leave and IR wanted to come over for a while so her mom and dad said okay so they could have time to clean up everything.
She played in the trailer playhouse and swung in the hammock then helped with chores before settling down with some supper.
As I came through the back yard this evening I had to admire this Kousa Dogwood tree that is full bloom right now.
With all these blooms the birds should have an abundance of large berries to east on this fall.
After daughter picked up IR hubbie and I moved the brooder box back inside the green house and used a 60 watt bulb instead of the 100 watt tonight.
I think maybe the temp being a little low is better than the higher temp. They seem active and fine in the upper 80's temps on the outside today.
Thankful for all the wonderful blessings this day held and praying for the everyone that the covid virus is affecting.
God Bless and Good Night

BABY CHICKS AND BABY GOATS, YEA SPRINGTIME !!

Man I was expecting sunshine this morning when I first looked out the window but the sky was dark and filled with clouds once again.
I got chores done and then had breakfast.
Daughter who has to work again today on the graduation programs dropped IR and CA off earlier than usual.
D-in-love is taking her kids to her moms for the day.
IR and CA were thrilled that the chicks were still in the living room.

Re brought lunches in and EL and BB stayed and had lunch with IR and CA which made them happy.
After they left hubbie and CA took naps while IR and played quietly.
IR is learning to sign the alphabet from Blues Clues cartoons !!

When daughter got off work we took the girls over to Re's to see her new baby goats and play awhile. IR liked watching these babies also but had no interest in touching them.

We came home and daughter took CA home and left IR here so she could get housework and cooking done for CA's birthday party tomorrow.
We got the chicks moved into the new brooder box and I will be making numerous trips up there in the next few days to make sure what the temperature does.
The chicks acted liked they enjoyed the roomier box.
I got chores done and then hubbie, IR and I all relaxed out in the covered patio until son-in-love picked up IR.
Aa helped #1 son get his pool filled with water tonight and RL was watching eagerly anticipating her first dip in the pool this year.
I finished CA's quilt completely tonight and then hubbie and I relaxed for the evening.
Thankful for the blessings of this day.
God Bless and Good Night
