SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY AND GETTING READY FOR FREEZING TEMPS

Another weird Saturday morning. It still takes me a while when I realize it is Saturday to realize I don't go to market right now.
It was 35 degrees this morning but the wind was still blowing so there was no frost.
Our northern neighbors aren't so lucky as they woke up to snow on the ground and temps in the mid 20's.

We got chores done and then loaded some birthday things for son-in-love that daughter had hidden over here for his party today. Son-in-love is turning 40 next Saturday and daughter wanted to surprise him so she decided to have his party today because some of his brothers that live out of town would be in town this weekend for Mother's day anyway.
Brad's daughter had a meeting with a local college soft ball coach so he asked son-in-love to go with them to get him out of the house.
We went over as soon as he left and helped daughter get things decorated and ready for the party.

All of his siblings made it plus his mom and dad. #1 son's family and hubbie and I were there for our side of the family. #2 son and Tif are working today.
Son-in-love was truly surprised when they pulled into the drive and saw all his family there to celebrate with him.
Everyone had a nice visit and we all ate BBQ from Hot Dog world and some homemade sides.
With his requested lemon pound cake and strawberry tarts for dessert.
Hubbie and I came home to work in the garden getting the potatoes hilled up to help fend off the cold night tonight.
I looked in the garden and unbelievably more things have come up in the last day so I needed more sheets to cover things up tonight.
Just as the new sprouts in the garden I am fussing at the new blooms on this daylily and this little Flag lily that opened it's first blossom today.

We covered the blueberry plants that are loaded with berries up tonight and crossed out fingers.

The grapes also have already put out little bunches of fruits, we didn't have enough sheets to cover them so we are just praying these survive.
Along with the tame blackberries that are just starting to bloom.
We don't have much hope for these peaches and pears that have pretty large fruits on them.

This Lunaria or Money Plant is starting to loose it's blooms and put on it's "money" so have no idea what the cold will do to it.

I hope the Hosta's with these large round leaves and all the other Hostas I have don't get hurt.
The Iris are still putting out beautiful blossoms but I'm sure the freezing temps will end their show for the season.

These Azaleas are already on their way out this year.
My Rhodie is just now putting out some big blossoms and it is in a pretty protected spots so I have hopes it will be okay.
My roses against the house will get covers so protect their delicate blooms.

This big bush of burgundy Roses will be on it's on with the protection of some overgrown Elderberry bushes that I have actually left over them for this very reason.

There is a lot of this wild Fleabane Daisy plants blooming all around the yard so it will be interesting to see how cold hardy it is. And to see if maybe Mother nature herself has been fooled by old man winter who doesn't seem to want to go away this year.
Hubbie and I worked hard again tonight to almost dark getting things all tucked away as best we could.
We relaxed for the evening and are saying a prayer that the temperature won't get as low as some of the weather predicters say it is going to get.
Today was 55 degrees and it set a new record for the lowest temperature on this day for the day's high temp.
Thankful for the blessings of this day and for the family God choose to bless me with.
God Bless and Good Night
