SLOW MARKET, EGG BANDIT CAUGHT

G-daughter arrived this morning and fell right back to sleep as hubbie, who is taking the day off from work, layed her between us in bed.
When the alarm sounded at 8 we all got up and got ready for market.
The day is already warm and humid so I'm thinking there will be storms this afternoon as I grabbed a rain jacket on my way out the door.
After we got set up hubbie left to run a couple errands and then come home to work in the garden .
G-daughter was back to her old self today, playing and talking with everyone. Sales were pretty slow today but I am thankful for what I did sell.
We left market and ran our errands then stopped at Aldi and Walmart for baking supplies and groceries. G-daughter is so good on these market days. She took a couple short 30-45 minute naps at market, then she sleeps through banking and PO and when we get to Aldi she wakes up smiling and helps me shop !!!  She then goes back to sleep as soon as she gets back in her car seat and sleeps until we get to Walmart, which is a very short drive, then I ask her if she is ready to wake up and shop some more and she opens her eyes and smiles !!!   What a little treasure she is !!!!
When we got home hubbie helped us unload and put things away. Then the three of us played in the living room until d-in-love got here.
She had an errand to run with g-daughter so g-son stayed with us. As I was fixing him something to eat hubbie came running in and headed for his gun cabinet saying "my snake" was in the hen house eating eggs again.
I gave g-son his food and headed up to see if it was still there while he loaded the gun. I grabbed a garden hoe just in case it was trying to escape.
Hubbie shot the snake from its perch over the door where the bird nest that had gotten knocked down had been. Hubbie said he looked in the hen's nest at 1:00 and there were eggs now there wasn't any eggs anywhere so this 4-5 foot black rat snake had cleaned all the eggs out again.
I hope he (or she) enjoyed their last meal of eggs !!!
We  don't like to kill these harmless snakes but when they invade the chicken houses they always loose !!  This is a pretty big snake, very capable of eating baby chicks as well as eggs.
While I was feeding the chickens it started to pour rain trapping me and the dogs in the garden / feed shed for about 10 minutes until the storm passed. When I checked the gauge there was about 2/10ths inch from this downpour.
D-in-love came after g-son and hubbie and I had supper of some sauteed fresh turnips, zuchinni and yellow squash I bought today at market.
Yum , I love all fresh vegetables suppers in summer time .
We relaxed for the evening listening to the distant thunder but our area got no more rain.
Grateful to God for the blessings of the day.
God Bless and Good Night

i agree about killing a harmless creature, but when it invades my territory then all is fair. He sure was a big snake. Glad you got some rain; hope it helps your garden grow. The rain here has helped the new grass seed sprout. Have a great weekend. And may God bless you.
