GOOD-BYE SEPTEMBER

This last day of September 2016 dawns cool and beautiful with the lowest morning temp so far in the season of 48 degrees.
After chores , breakfast and devotions I took a nice walk. As I walked I heard a commotion down on the road and looked to see someone had lost several rolls of sod in the roadway.
Soon the fire department appeared and cleared the road. Someone is going to be really disappointed when they discover they lost that much of their sod when they get home.
After my walk I baked cakes, 12 caramel, 2 chocolate, 1 coconut, 4 pound and 1 blackberry wine cake.  I had a late lunch then rested out in the warm sunshine for a few minutes.
Back inside I did my sewing for the day and made this large bonnet. October is usually a good bonnet selling time with all the church's homecomings and such events.
I spent the rest of the afternoon working downstairs getting more "stuff" gone through and arranged.
Hubbie was impressed with my progress when he got home.
We watched the news then did evening chores. The high temp today was 75 but it is dropping like a rock this evening. A breeze kicked up making it uncomfortable to sit outside tonight.
I spent the evening icing my cakes.
D-in-love called and said she had stayed out of work today and took g-son to the doctor with a really bad sore throat. The strep test was negative but the doctor said his throat looked so bad she gave him antibiotics anyway. Poor little guy he hasn't felt well for a couple weeks.
The big news right now is the surprising cat. 4 hurricane that Mathew has turned into as he bears down on Jamaica and Cuba.

As this Septmeber comes to an end and I look back over the month I am reminded of how blessed I am.
Starting the month off was a fun and family filled Labor Day weekend. We attended the Apple Festival on Friday night and then went on a family 7.5 mile bike ride on Monday through the new nature trail that the county has put in linking Berkley park, Jackson park and Patton park.
G-daughter turned 1 year old and had her first birthday party under the big tent at church. She also started going to a little pre-school a couple mornings a week as she is so social and enjoys other kids so much.

With a little slow down in my market schedule I have attended all daughter's JV teams volleyball games this year and a couple varsity so far. It is a joy to watch her guide these young players to win most of the games.

We had a minor gas shortage that put lines at all the gas pumps and caused empty gas tanks at many stations around our area when the major supply pipeline to this area had a leak and had to be shut down. This brought back unpleasant memories for hubbie and I as we remembered going through the gas shortage in the 70's and spending many hours in gas lines.
I have been blessed spending time with all four of these special youngsters this month and watching them grow.

The weather has been in the news all month long as this September broke a long time record set back in 1933 for the warmest September on record. The difference was only 1/10th but it broke the old record of 79.8 and was 79.9 this year.

It was also one of the driest Septembers on record with less than an inch of rain for the entire month.
I am very thankful to God that he chose to bless my family as He did in this month and am looking forward to His plans for us in October.
God Bless and Good Night.

SLOW MARKET, VOLLEYBALL GAME

A chilly 51 degree morning to make it really Fall feeling today. I brought out my cover-alls for the first time this morning to wear over my clothes to get chores done.
I made some changes to my outfit for the day as I really don't know how the predicted high of 68 is going to feel later today and I'm sure the fans will still be running at market.
As I sit here at market waiting on customers I am looking at my fingernails and wondering how they are going to look when they finish peeling off. Even after almost 2 months the Hand Foot and Mouth virus hasn't finished with me yet and is causing this. It looks like I will loose at least 2 nails off each hand right now. My toe nails are painted so I'm not sure how many of those I may loose, sigh !!!
My knees are getting better thankfully but are pretty sore today after all the lifting and turning I did in the basement yesterday.
Market is very slow as I expected today but I had several orders so that makes a pretty good last market day of September.
I brought some of the little Strawberry popcorn out to sell today but no one has even noticed it yet.

Hubbie came by and brought me a Greek Salad from Hot Dog World, my favorite , for lunch today, thanks hon !!
After I left market I ran my regular errands and headed out of town. This is a picture of our little town.
I shopped for baking supplies and groceries at Aldi and Walmart and made it home around 4:00.
I got unloaded and got things put away in time to head out to school to the volleyball game.
They were playing East Henderson today and won both sets very quickly. The varsity also won their game easily.

I made it home in time to watch the news before doing the evening chores. It is still chilly this evening with the high temp of the day getting to 74 .
As expected Mathew has already turned into a hurricane and has a strange projected path that could be our drought breaker in this area.
Tonight I am praying for this sweet little boy as he fights for his life after a school shooting yesterday.
In Anderson county SC at Townville elementary a 14 year old troubled young man showed up on the playground and opened fire on students and teachers. Fortunately no one was killed but this little boy named Jacob lost a massive amount of blood and is fighting for his life today. They found the 14 year old's father shot to death in their home sadly. The teenager was killed on the scene  by police.
Prayers for Jacob !!!

Each evening I more and more each day hate to turn on the news as seems like every day now there is tragedy some where.
Hubbie said he saw this sign today and thought this is the only way this country is going to overcome all the killing and devastation that is in the news each day.
To make matters worse tonight daughter called and said they got news just after the volleyball game tonight that one of the senior boys at her school shot himself today. I ask again what in the world is the world coming to ????
Praying tonight for little Jacob and also for this young man's family as they go through this "valley" for this young man's suicide. May God wrap His loving ,comforting arms around all involved and show them that His love is greater than any earthly feeling.
God Bless and Good Night.

SEPTEMBER 1996 BABY SHOWER

Out to do chores on a still cloudy but clearing mid 60's morning.
After breakfast and devotions I took a nice walk to marvel at all the beauty this time of year brings and the leaves aren't even starting to put on their show yet.

There is an abundance of Walnuts this year and the squirrels don't seem to be harvesting many at all ?
Also the acorns are large this year, but fewer in number that I have seen in some years past.
Hubbie's Asparagus patch has done well this year.
I came inside to bake a coconut cake for a special order.  While it was in the oven I sewed up my one item for today in this medium sized pink bonnet.

After lunch the sun had mostly won the battle with the clouds so I went out to soak up some vitamin D knowing these days are surely numbered !!
Back inside I decided to work downstairs clearing out the items we don't need and getting things more organized. I worked all afternoon until Re and kids came over to borrow the vacuum and let the kids play a little while with Pawpaw as he came in from work.
I had a pretty big pile of trash for hubbie to load up from my afternoon of cleaning.
After they left hubbie and I rested and watched the evening news before heading out to get the evening chores done.
The "M", Mathew, Atlantic tropical storm was named today and is expected to reach hurricane strength quickly as it churns through the very warm waters of the Caribbean.

Hubbie gleaned the garden and found more tomatoes, bell pepper and yellow squash for some fresh vegetables.
I worked in my office on weekly paperwork and paid bills until Survivor came on then after the show I iced the coconut cake and got things ready for market.
To finish the decade pics for September back in September 2006 we were getting ready to welcome our first grandchild into the world and we gave the happy parents a shower at church.

Comparing bellies !!!!!

Thankful for the memories and this special addition to our family.
Thankful for the blessings of this day and the strength He gives me each day.
God Bless and Good Night

SICK G-DAUGHTER, VOLLEYBALL AND 1996 SCHOOL PICS

G-daughter arrived at 7am and she didn't feel well at all. D-in-love thinks a couple of 12 month molars are trying to come in causing her to have constant diarrhea. This started yesterday while she was here and today her little bottom is firey red and broken out and she is miserable. No pre-school for her today so we went back to bed . Bless her heart she layed her head on my arm and didn't move for 45 minutes, until the 8:00 alarm went off.
I got her some breakfast and then did chores. We got 6/10ths inch of rain overnight so that was a nice drink for everything.
G-daughter didn't eat much breakfast and just wanted to go to back to sleep. But as soon as I layed her in her crib she woke up and had another messy diaper.
By 10am she had had 3 major messy diapers and was constantly whining. Her mom got off work at lunch and came to get her and let her breast feed so she could get some fluids in her .
After they left I had lunch then spent the after noon cleaning house. I did manage a few minutes of  sewing time and got one little baby bonnet made for the day.
A storm came up late this afternoon and we had a lot of thunder and lightening but only a sprinkle of rain here.
I went to watch the volleyball came with West Henderson tonight.
Daughter's JV dropped 2 quick sets to loose their game.

I sat on the top bleacher so I could lean my achy back from all my housework today against the wall.

Josh came out to watch the varsity so I stayed and watched with him.  Josh and I are sitting on the top bleacher all the way to the left in this photo .
Daughter gives some encouragement to the varsity players.

Their sets were exciting and close but North lost 3 out of 4 sets to take their second loss of the season both at the hands of West.
I need to get more decade pics on here so here are the September 1996 school pics of the kids.
Daughter was in the 6th grade enjoying her first year in middle school.
#2 son was in 8th grade starting his last year in middle school.
#1 son was in 9th grade starting his freshman year in high school.
He was on the JV football team and they had an undefeated year.

Wow, each time I look at these old photos I wonder how the years have gone by so fast ???
I'm proud of the hard working adults that all three of my kids have turned out to be.
Thankful for today's blessings and for the past blessings that these three kids brought into my life by the grace of a wonderful Heavenly Father.
God Bless and Good Night.
