CARL SANDBURG GOAT FARM TRIP

G-son arrived before 7am this morning. Hubbie got up and fixed him breakfast and then napped on the couch awhile until my alarm went off at 8:00.
I got up did the chores and had breakfast.
We decided to take g-son to Carl Sandburg's house this morning. Daughter wants to go so she is meeting us there.

We went by the house but the goat barn was our main plan . G-son loved all the baby goats that were so calm.

He immediately picked a favorite, her name was Cinnamon.
He petted all of them but always came back to Cinnamon.
Aunt T loves baby goats also as we used to raise these same type goats on our farm.
She was good at putting them to sleep !!

I even picked out a favorite, this little Toggenburg was so sweet, after I petted him he got up and followed me all around.

We were there at feeding time and g-son was thrilled to get to see these two babies nursing their mom from their knees.
G-son also got to lend a hand at feeding time for the mamas.
This is a beautiful place to spend some relaxing time, just watching the goats graze in the green grass.
Carl Sandburg's goat herd consisted of three different types of goats.
You can still purchase some of these goats as each fall they hold a closed bid auction for some of them.
It was lunchtime for us so we headed back to the cars.
We wondered how tall this huge tree was.
G-son like this old tractor .
It was a great way to spend a morning.   I loved this sign !!  TRY  BEING A GOAT !!!!
The last thing we saw was this guy that g-son's sharp eyes spotted as we walked past the pond.
We went by McDonalds on the way home to cap off a very enjoyable morning.
At home hubbie went out to mow the lawn and I got weekly laundry started. G-son was content to play games on his I-pad.
I picked this basket of green beans last night to make Dilly Beans out of today.
After getting a load of laundry started I sat out in the sunshine and broke the ends off all the beans.
With the jars washed in hot water I filled each pint jar with the beans. I hold the jar side ways to get the beans to lay flat and straight as I fill the jar.
They must be packed tightly in the jar.
To the jar of beans I add: 1 clove of fresh garlic, 1 head of of dill or 1 teaspoon of dill seed, 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper flakes.
Next I boil together 5 cups of water and 5 cups of white vinegar along with 1/2 cup of salt. This amount is for 8 pints of beans.
Pour the hot boiling mixture over the beans in each jar, put hot lid on and water bath them covered in water for 10 minutes. They are a very good addition to any meal.
My first canning of the season turned out good with all the jars sealing and looking great.
D-in-love came after g-son a few minutes early and hubbie finished his weed eating so hubbie and I headed out to Home Depot to get some stone steps for my new way onto the porch and to pick up daughter some mulch that is on sale.
As we drove over to her house to drop off the mulch it began to rain very hard. At her house the rain wasn't as hard so hubbie hurried to unload before the hard rain reached there.
On our way home the rain poured until about a mile from our house and the ground was dry here.
I put some Salmon and some Asparagus in the oven for supper and went out to do the chores and pick more beans.
The beans I picked today are half runners so they will be canned tomorrow morning while it is still cool.
After we ate , I watered my potted plants and then hubbie and I sat out in the covered patio and broke the beans.
A good relaxing way to end a busy fun filled day.
Thankful tonight for a wonderful blessing filled day and for the bounty of produce He provides for us.
Good Night and God Bless.

Your Dilly Bean recipe sounds really good. Would love to try it sometime. Carl Sandburg's Goat Farm sounds like fun. My daughter-in-law raises goats and would love this place. Blessings
